What is copper tungsten bar?

Copper tungsten bar is a combination of tungsten and copper. The manufacturing process is as follows: press the refractory metal, sinter the pressed compact at a high temperature, and infiltrate it with copper. All this is done under very closely controlled conditions.

The result is a relatively hard material with superior arc and wear resistance, high physical Properties: at elevated temperatures, and good electrical and thermal conductivity.

Applications for Tungsten Alloy Bar

Tungsten Alloy Bars are used for end mill extensions, arbors, tool holders, grinding quills, and boring bars. We can make heavier cuts at increased speeds. Because of high thermal conductivity—three times that of steel!—tools run cooler, adding to tool life and less down time, as well as its very high density, tungsten alloy bar is increasingly welcome by the public. It does not anneal during brazing, so carbide or tool holders and extensions can be brazed directly without affecting physical properties.

The high density of tungsten means it's an ideal material to make vibration-free boring bars. Tungsten alloy bar which includes WNiFe, WNiCu, or WNiCuFe are usually used in this field.

Using the bar made of tungsten alloy means making heavier cuts, a longer tool life, and a better finish. Tool extensions up to 10:1 are possible, depending on the diameter. Tools run cooler because of the high thermal conductivity, and we can braze directly to material without affecting its physical properties.

These materials are often used in place of tungsten carbide boring bars because they have a higher density, are readily machinable, and are less prone to chipping and breakage. In addition, both material and finishing costs are less.

Tungsten alloy bar can be made into two different shapes: tungsten rod and tungsten strip.

Tungsten has a very high melting point of 3422 degrees Celsius, good corrosion resistance and can be added to other metals to produce extremely hard alloys. Tungsten in bar form is most often supplied as 99.99% pure tungsten, which can be brittle.

Tungsten alloy bar is by grinding tungsten metal ore into a fine powder. Chemical processing of the powder then forms tungsten oxide, which is heated to reduce the metal ore powder into pure tungsten powder. This pure powder is placed in a mold and hydraulically pressed into a bar form. The resulting bar is very fragile, and producers must then sinter the bar. Sintering further binds the metal powder in the bar, making the bar ready for shipment to manufacturers.

Tungsten bar is fine-grained, has a uniform color and has a luster much like that of silver.

Types of Tungsten Bar

Pure tungsten bar: includes tungsten rod, tungsten steel bar, tungsten rod, tungsten sintered bars and more, which is mainly used to found ingredient of material, cutter and heads, tungsten wire for lights instruments, electric contact points and conductor of heat, crankshaft and cylinder barrel of advanced automobile, ingredient of kinds of heat-resistant steel. Tungsten bar with impurities is used to produce bulb filaments or electron tube filaments, which are guaranteed to have remarkable resistance to high temperature. Pure tungsten is a naturally occurring metal mined from the earth. In this raw form, pure tungsten can be very brittle.

Tungsten heavy alloy bar is produced by pressing and sintering into billets, which are worked by rolling or swaging into rod. Smaller sizes are produced by subsequent drawing. Tungsten heavy alloy bar is produced in straight random lengths with a smooth swaged surface at diameters 3mm and larger, and with a smooth drawn finish below 3mm. A centerless-ground finish can also be furnished. Specific lengths and special fabrications can be supplied upon request.

Tungsten carbide bar is an inorganic chemical compound containing equal parts of tungsten and carbon atoms. Tungsten carbide bars widely known as one kind of carbide cutting tools, it’s available for different grinding geometric parameters and suitable for both cutting materials and nonmetal materials, also it can be applied to conventional,carbide inserts, semi-automatic lathe, automatic lathe and planning machine to work grooves and operate cutting, etc.
