Early in the 21st century, the game of darts has become a very enjoyable past time for professionals and amateurs alike. Whether your playing for fun in your local pub, or battling out at a tournament, being able to accurately finish is vital in ensuring victory.
Finishing in darts is a test of your accuracy and mathematical skills to ensure you finish as quickly as possible. The standard games like 301 and 501 require you to finish on a double or in the center bullseye.
Double Top
Double 20 is considered to be the most popular finish of most darts players. As you are aiming to hit treble 20 during the scoring process, your eye line is already adjusted to make hitting 20 easier. This means that when you come to finish, you will be more likely to hit double 20 than any other finish.
Bull
The bull is a popular finish by many players who may have missed the treble they needed to hit to gain access to a lower finish. The bull ensures that you will nearly always be guaranteed some type of finish. While the bull is more difficult to hit than other doubles,it allows you to check out before your opponent.
Double 16
The double 16 is a popular choice for many who do not like to go for double 20. Double 16 is a good choice because if you hit single 16 you still have a finish on double eight. As the number always breaks down in to an even number, it ensures you are never stuck on an odd number where you cannot finish.
Double 18
As people have better accuracy at the top of the board with them constantly aiming for 20, double 18 is one of the better options for a checkout. Its high number allows you to access it quickly and can act as a good cover shot should you fail to to hit your original shot.

Hold A Steady Stance
You will have a much better chance of success if your stance is upright and steady. Don't attempt to lean forward and get yourself an extra inch or two closer to the dartboard;doing this greatly reduces your stability and makes it more difficult to aim effectively.
Distribute your weight evenly between both feet, all the while holding a comfortable stance. Never attempt to shoot in a motion that results in using your tiptoes.
Accuracy Over Velocity
Do not waste any energy trying to put a little extra velocity on your throws. The dart is not more likely to do what you want it to with extra speed behind it, so relax and focus on having a smooth throwing motion and follow-through instead. For best accuracy, your follow-through should take your arm on a continued path to the board after the dart leaves your hand, with your fingers pointing to the board.

Hold The Dart Loosely But Firmly

Whether you are playing socially with friends at a bar or attempting to participate in professional competitions, becoming a skillful dart thrower is challenging. Although the basic premise and rules of the game are easily accessible, the ability to hit your intended target with any consistency takes both time and practice. If you are looking to improve your skills, you need to refine the three areas that have the biggest impact on performance: your grip, stance and throw.
When holding the dart in preparation for your throw, use a solid, relaxed grip. Use at least three fingers in your grip -- your thumb and two others. Never form a fist with your grip, and don't put too much pressure on the dart; if there is any tension in the musclesof your fingers or your fingertips turn white from the force, you need to loosen your grip.Darts is a game of finesse rather than force, and you need to position the dart in yourhand lightly for an ideal shot.

What is Better: Steel or Tungsten Darts?

- Published on Thursday, 05 December 2013 19:13
The tip of the dart
When it comes to selecting a tip for your darts, the board you play on is the critical factor. The tip of the dart is either made from steel or a soft tip. The steel is weighty enough to stay in the bed of the traditional bristle dartboard. Soft tips are essential for use on the electronic dartboards.
Costs
The cost of your darts may influence your choice. Brass and steel barrels tend to be cheaper, so if you are buying a set for the first time to see whether you enjoy the game, you might wish to try these before committing to the more expensive tungsten darts, which can sometimes be 2-3 times as expensive.
What professionals use
Although the original question asked whether steel darts were better than tungsten, the answer is probably that a combination is best. Professional darts players will typically use tungsten barrels and steel tips.
Personal preference
No matter what the professionals do, however, nothing is more important than how comfortable you are throwing the darts when choosing them. Go to a shop which stocks a variety and they will usually allow you to try them. Experiment with differently weighted darts, different alloys and pick a set which feel right in your hand.

Weight of Dart's Barrel

In order to fly effectively, darts need a certain amount of weight behind them. The main part of the dart, the barrel, is usually made with metal alloy. Steel and tungsten are both used, as are brass and silver/nickel alloys. The advantage of tungsten over all other types is its density, meaning the dart can be quite weighty while still being slim. This is useful if you throw your darts in close groupings to one another on the board. Fatter shafts will tend to bounce off of other darts and may miss their intended target or even bounce off the board.

How to Hang a Bristle Dartboard at Regulation Height and Distance

Steel-tip dart games can be a fun diversion at home or on a night out with friends at the local bar. As with other sports, you can also join local dart leagues or participate in blind draws and dart competitions for money. Hanging an official bristle dartboard at home gives you the opportunity to practice more often and take your dart playing to the next level. It's important to have consistency when practicing darts; so you'll want to hang your bristle dartboard at the regulation height and distance.
1.Use the measuring tape to measure 5 feet, 8 inches up from the floor. Mark this spot on the wall with a pencil.
2.Place bracket on wall. The pencil mark should be within the bottom curve of the center U-shaped opening.
3.Screw the bracket into the wall. Center the screws in the circular openings on either side of the U-shaped opening. You can use a small level to make sure the bracket is straight or just eyeball it.
4.Turn the dartboard over and use the measuring tape to find the center. Mark with a pencil. (Some dartboards come already marked with a small indentation in the center).
5.Attach a screw to the center of dartboard back. Do not screw it all the way in; leave enough space between the screw and the backing so it can slide into the mounting bracket.
6.Place three rubber stoppers on the back of board, about 2 inches from the edge, roughly equal distances from each other.
7.Place a nail in the center of the first stopper and hammer into place until the stopper sits firmly against the board.
8.Place the dartboard back against the wall, slightly above the bracket. Slide it down until the screw slips into the U-shaped opening on the wall bracket. Turn until the 20 is centered at the top. The dartboard should fit snugly against the wall. If there is still some small movement, remove dartboard and tighten the center screw. Rehang dartboard.

Rules of Darts and Distance from the Board
- Details

- Published on Wednesday, 04 December 2013 14:12
The game of darts began in medieval England. Darts were used to help teach archery and were thrown at the bottoms of empty wine barrels. The students would take their darts to the local pubs to show off the skills they had learned. In the 1900’s, darts rules became similar to the ones we use today.
Dartboards
Modern dartboards are made from sisal, which is also used to make ropes. Regulation dartboards measure 17 3/4 inches in diameter and are divided equally into 20 sections. Each section is numbered from 1 to 20. The number 20 is always at the top of the dartboard. The dartboard must be hung so that the bull's eye in the center of the board is 5 feet 8 inches from the ground. Darts must be thrown from behind a line on the floor called an oche. This must be 17 feet 9 3/4 inches away from the board. The outer ring on a dartboard doubles the score of the section the dart landed in, so if a dart landed in the outer ring of the number 20, then 40 points would be scored. There is also a smaller ring running through the middle of the numbers which trebles the score of the dart. If a dart lands in the treble section of the number 20, then 60 points are scored.
Darts
Darts must weigh between 1 and 2 ounces and must be no longer than 12 inches in length. Professional darts are usually made from tungsten but can also be made from brass. Tungsten is used because it is a heavy metal and less of the material is used and this means the darts can be made smaller in size. The flights on a dart are usually made from nylon or a plastic polymer.
How to Play Darts
Darts is a game between two players who take it in turns to throw a set of three darts at the dartboard from behind the oche. When the game begins, both players have a score of 501. After they have each thrown a set of three darts, the score they achieved is subtracted from the previous total. The game is completed when one of the players reaches zero by scoring a double, which is the outer ring on the dartboard, or by scoring a bull's eye. If a player goes "bust," meaning he scores more points than he actually needs, his score returns to what it was before the most recent set of darts was thrown.

How to Improve at Darts
- Details
- Category: Tungsten Dart News & Info
- Published on Wednesday, 04 December 2013 14:09
Playing darts can be a lot of fun. If you are a competitor at heart, you know the thrill of hitting bullseye after bullseye as your opponent struggles to hit the board at all. And if you find yourself leaning more toward the latter, don't worry. You can improve your dart game and doing so is guaranteed to be fun
1.Practice, practice, and practice some more. As with any sport, practicing darts is the best way to get better. With this in mind, it is wise to invest in your own dart board which you can mount in your basement or garage. Once you have your own you can practice as often as you'd like without ever leaving the house.
2.Become observant. If you want to improve your dart game, it will help to observe other players in action. When you see someone who plays especially well, take a few minutes to watch them as they play.
3.Join a dart league. Even if you don't feel as though your skills are league ready, you can still join. Once you do, you'll have the benefit of watching a lot of good players in action. You'll be rubbing elbows with experienced players whom you can ask to critique your technique. These players can also offer you valuable advice and tips as you play.
4.Look for books on dart playing. Find out all about different games, techniques and styles of play when you find yourself ready to take a break from the board. This will help you to be smart about your game and give you things to try the next time you play.
5.Invite some friends or your significant other to join you in learning to get better at playing darts. You can encourage each other and share a fun hobby together.
6.Vary the games that you play. If you strictly spend your time at the dart board aiming for the bullseye, your skills will be significantly lacking in other areas of the game. Most games involve aiming for various points on the board, not just hitting it dead center. You will also be less likely to tire of the game when you change up the games you play.
