Also known as "Around the Clock," Around the World is a game which is played by any number of individuals, but works best with between four and eight. Players must hit the numbers of the dartboard in order, starting with one. Once a player hits 20, she must then hit either the inner or outer bullseye to secure the win. When scoring, if a player hits a double or triple, she skips out either one or two steps -- for example, if a player hits double three, she moves straight on to five, and if she hits triple 10, she must next hit 13.

01 Dart Games
- Details
- Category: Tungsten Dart News & Info
- Published on Monday, 27 January 2014 11:01
The conventional way of playing darts, '01 games are those where two players or teams compete down from a number (usually 501) to zero. Each contestant takes a turn throwing three scoring darts -- the sum of the three darts is reduced from their overall total, so if a player starts on 501 and scores 20, 18, 18, he is then on 445. When a contestant gets to 170 and below, he can win the game by "checking out." This is where the final dart of their game is a double. For example, if a player requires 38 (double 19) for the win and accidentally scores 39 or more, they "bust" their score and must let their opponent throw again before returning to try and check out 38. One completed '01 game is known as a "leg," and "sets" are usually the best out of three or five legs. Furthermore, darts matches are often the best of three sets.

Each dart lane will consist of a sisal dartboard with a metal web to separate the scoring areas of the board. The board will be mounted with the bulls eye at exactly 68 inches from the floor. You will throw from a throwing line that is exactly 7 feet, 9-1/4 inches from the face of the board. You may not step beyond the throwing line while throwing each dart. A scoring area will be provided at the right side of the board clear of your lane.
Order of play
You are allowed three darts per turn. Play begins as you and your opponent throw a single dart at the bulls eye to determine who will play first. Closest to the bulls eye goes first. If the dart of both players enters the center bull ring a subsequent throw is required until one prevails. Prior to the bull throw you are allowed nine warm up darts.
Typical professional games
As a singles event player you will play the traditional game of 301. In this game your score begins with 301 points and must be reduced to exactly zero. A doubles event would begin with 501 points and reduce to zero with each doubles team alternating throwing turns. Each game or match consists of three games, or legs. First to reach two wins moves on.

Dart Board Sizes

Darts is a game that is played in many different variations, in many different regions of the world. Its greatest popularity may be in UK pubs, and Americanized versions of these pubs, but it is just as enjoyable to play at home or in another casual environment. Because the rules and their variations are not common knowledge, familiarizing yourself with the internationally recognized standards of both boards and rules can give you a competitive edge.
Standard Dimensions
The standard dimensions of a dartboard is 18 inches in diameter, or nine inches out from the center of the bull's eye.
Standard Board Placement
As long as you are playing a type of dart game that uses the standard board, there is a regulation standard for the board's placement. The bull's eye should be centered at five feet, eight inches off the ground. The throwing line is marked at seven feet and nine and one fourth inches away from the board.
"Fives" Board
The "Fives" variant of darts uses the same standard size board (18 inches in diameter), however it is sectioned into twelve equal radials, rather than the standard 20. The points are all multiples of five with five being the lowest, and 20 being the highest. Each number repeats three times on the board.
"Fives" Board Placement
The "Fives" dart board is placed at the same height on the wall as the standard board; however, the throwing line for this board is nine feet from the board.

How to Clean Horsehair Dart Boards
- Details
- Category: Tungsten Dart News & Info
- Published on Friday, 24 January 2014 14:12
Most dartboards that appear to be horsehair are actually made of sisal, a fiber from an Agave plant, although very old dartboards may contain horsehair. Bristle dartboards, no matter what material from which they are made, can be easily damaged if they are stored in a hot or moist place. If you are looking to restore an old dartboard, examine it closely first for moisture damage. Bubbles in the surface indicate such damage and may not be repairable.
1.Vacuum the surface of the dartboard to remove any dust or debris.
2.Use a soft but stuff brush to remove embedded dust and dirt from the surface.
3.Examine the dartboard for moisture damage, including mildew and mold. If you find mold or mildew, your board may be damaged beyond repair. However, if it is just mold found on the surface, you may be able to save it.
4.Take a moldy dartboard outside so that mold spores are not spread around your home.
5.Use a can of compressed air to blow the mold and mildew spores, as well as any other dust, out of the board.
6.Leave the dartboard in direct sunlight for a day or two to kill the mold or mildew. Bring it into the garage overnight so that dew or frost does not settle on it. Sunlight may cause the dartboard to fade slightly, but this is better than having mold or mildew on it.
7.Dampen a clean cloth with wood polish and gently wipe it on the surface of the dartboard. Do not soak the board with the polish.
8.Allow it to dry thoroughly, at least overnight, before using.
9.Clean it again if necessary the next day.

How to Fix a Cork Dart Board
- Details
- Category: Tungsten Dart News & Info
- Published on Friday, 24 January 2014 14:09
While electronic dart boards are popular because of their easy upkeep and user-friendly interfaces, traditional dart boards made of cork are often cheaper and have a more classic aesthetic appeal to them. However, they do succumb to regular use's wear and tear and will require a little TLC from time to time. While minor issues like extremely dry cork can be fixed easily, if your board has a substantial amount of cork chunks taken out of it or mold damage, you may want to consider replacing it.
1.Wipe down your dart board gently with a damp cloth to get rid of any dust or dirt that has accumulated on the board over time.
2.Lay the dart board down on a secure surface such as a workbench or basement table.
3.Place the damp cloth on top of the dart board and leave it there overnight. Remove the cloth in the morning, and the cork should have naturally absorbed some of the moisture, returning it to playing form.

The world's best players demand bristle dartboards, and so should you. Applying regular care and maintenance to your dartboard will keep the darts flying and the players happy.
1.Every two weeks, remove the metal number ring from your dartboard.
2.Move the "20" through to the next blank segment. The "20" now becomes the "12," and so on.
3.Repeat the procedure more often or less often as use and wear dictate.

How to Mount an English Dart Board
- Details
- Category: Tungsten Dart News & Info
- Published on Friday, 24 January 2014 14:05
Darts is an English pub game that is popular worldwide. According to darts historian Patrick Chaplin, darts was played with different rules and boards all over England until it was organized into league play by breweries just after World War I. The English dart board is the standard dart board used across the world, but regional and specialty dart boards are available. Mounting an English dart board takes only a few minutes and requires little work.
1.Select a wall with at least 11 feet of floor space in front of it. Choose an area free from foot traffic.
2.Run a stud finder across the wall at shoulder height until it finds a stud. Mark the edges of the stud with a pencil.
3.Measure 5 feet, 8 inches off the ground. Make a mark in the center of the stud with a pencil.
4.Hold the dart board against the wall so the bullseye is directly over the mark. Lift the hanger bracket and mark where the nail should go with a pencil. Remove the dart board, place a nail against the mark and pound it in with a hammer. Leave 1/2-inch of the nail head protruding. Hang the dart board on the nail and adjust it so the "20" is centered at the top.
5.Measure 7 feet, 9-1/4 inches from the wall. Place a long piece of colored masking tape parallel to the wall at this distance. This is the throwing line.

How to Master Darts
- Details
- Category: Tungsten Dart News & Info
- Published on Friday, 24 January 2014 13:57
Dart historian Patrick Chaplin traces the game's history to the archers of old England, referring to that fact that in England, "arrows" is a common name for the sport today. A popular bar diversion, dart leagues and competitive tournaments allow players to display their skills for prizes and bragging rights. In 1984 John Lowe, a three-time World Championship titleholder, threw a nine-dart finish captured on television before a live audience for the first time. This level of play is afforded to the masters of the game and is open for achievement by a dedicated student and player.
1.Purchase an instruction book about the game or watch professional videos for improving play. Books such as "Fundartmentals: How To Throw Well and Win More," by Frank Pratt and "The American Darts Organization Book of Darts," by Chris Carey, offer tips about equipment, different types of dart games to play and tips from professionals about improving your game.
2.Review the fundamentals of your technique. Rick Osgood of the website Cyber Darts says, "Accuracy begins with a solid stance. Keep your feet planted solidly on the floor and avoid lunging, rocking or lifting the back foot off the floor during the dart toss." A solid foundation allows the player to work on finessing his game.
3.Play each game with a focused intensity and for as long as attention can be placed squarely on the game. Playing beyond a period where each throw matters will not increase the level of play, no matter if shooting with a partner or in solitary practice.
4.Practice often. Karlheinz Z?chling, a professional player from Austria, suggests that how often a player practices is more important than how much he practices. "Try to practice each day of the week, with not more than one or two days off," he says.
5.Join a league for regular competitive play. This will pit you against other players of varying skill levels and increase experience in playing when the stakes matter. Getting nerves and concentration under control while in competition is large part of mastering the game.
6.Sign up for local and statewide tournaments. Consistently winning games in a bar league means you may want to take your game to the next level. Playing against increasingly better players will improve your own game and move you up the ranks in amateur standings.
