Rare Earth Market - May 29, 2025

Rare earth market update on May 29, 2025

The domestic rare earth market is maintaining a generally weak performance, with a mix of bullish and bearish factors creating a somewhat stalemated negotiation atmosphere between buyers and sellers.

This has resulted in low market enthusiasm, product prices fluctuating within a narrow range, and limited actual transaction volumes. On the positive side, two factors stand out: first, strong production cost support and robust development in downstream rare earth industries have reduced suppliers' willingness to offer discounts; second, ongoing tightness in overseas rare earth supply and relatively high prices have, to some extent, bolstered domestic suppliers' confidence in maintaining prices. On the negative side, factors such as obstacles to domestic rare earth product exports, manufacturers maintaining normal production rhythms, and tight corporate funding have hindered an increase in market demand.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to April 2025, the total profits of industrial enterprises above the designated size nationwide reached 2,117.02 billion yuan, increased by 1.4% year-on-year. Among these, the non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry grew by 24.5%, the electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing industry by 15.4%, the special equipment manufacturing industry by 13.2%, the general equipment manufacturing industry by 11.7%, the computer, communication, and other electronic equipment manufacturing industry by 11.6%, and the electricity, heat production, and supply industry by 5.6%. In contrast, the chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing industry decreased by 4.4%, and the automobile manufacturing industry decreased by 5.1%.
