Pine Creek Tungsten Mine History (I)

Pine Creek Tungsten Mine locates on the south of Nevada mountain in California, 18 miles northwest from bishop town, altitude is 3300m, is a tungsten mine with centurial history.

Pine Creek Tungsten Mine was the biggest mine in the USA, it mainly produces tungsten scheelite and tungsten molybdenum ore, also bismuth ore and copper ore. It has large area. Pine Creek Tungsten Mine was discovered in 1916, explored in 1918. It was first started in the altitude 1100m. Transportation was using mule to send them down to the ground and then to train station.

In winter, mountain is covered by heavy snow, the mine was shut up until spring comes.

In 1936, American vanadium industry tookover the company and spend a large amount to build cable, exploration of mine then enters into a new era. It becomes worldclass tungsten tungsten producer.

During World War II, international tungsten price surges, Pine Creek Tungsten Mine became the largest tungsten supplier in US. It makes a lot of profit and the production scale keeps enlarging.
