Tungsten Trioxide Photocatalyst Eases Groundwater and Soil Pollution

Recently, with the soil pollution around schools and other news was broken, soil pollution has already caused public concern. Soil pollution can be divided into two categories of inorganic and organic pollutants. Inorganic pollutants include acids, alkalis, heavy metals, and radioactive elements; organic pollution is mainly organic pesticides, petroleum and urban sewage, sludge and so on. Compared to the atmosphere, water pollution, the soil problem has the properties of hidden, hysteresis, accumulation, regional and irreversibility, therefore, its governance is difficult, and requires a long term. However, I think the key in the soil pollution is the prevention, what is to say the source control. Production and domestic waste water, sludge and other emissions are the major cause of soil pollution.
 
Tungsten trioxide has a narrow band gap, can effectively respond to visible light; as a photocatalyst, it can be used to treat the polluted water which contains organic and inorganic pollutants. Studies have shown that the photocatalytic of tungsten trioxide photocatalyst can solve the problem of pollution chromium, mercury, lead and other heavy metals; moreover, it also plays an extremely high utility in COD removal and organic matter degradation of the polluted water.
