Tungsten Trioxide Photocatalyst Disarming Intruder from Inside

Occupants of new homes may be living dangerously, albeit unwittingly, with harmful air seeping out of their interior decor or furniture. But, there is some way to solve this problem, the tungsten trioxide photocatalyst, which us the substance that cause a chemical reaction on exposure to light, utilizing photons in the process to break up noxious gas, such as formaldehyde, benzene and TVOC, into H2O and CO2.

Moving into a new home could unwittingly invite an unwelcome "intruder" - noxious air seeping from the interior dcor or furniture that can hurt you as much as the city's notorious smog. A director of house environment techniques has once said people with a penchant for grand or complicated interior decoration are compounding the smog problem as the materials used could emit formaldehyde and TVOCs (total volatile organic compounds) that are harmful to health and can potentially cause cancer.

Recently, a photocatalyst developed into a liquid product has been invented, which can be sprayed onto walls, furniture, children's toys or clothes, thus to help clean up the air and kill the bacteria around them.

Besides the pollution from decoration materials, a tungsten trioxide photocatalyst can also deal with smog pollution and are thought to be an even better alternative to air cleansers. Moreover, photocatalysts can also be used to purify the air in cars. Last year, more than 23.85 million new cars were registered in China which is the highest ever recorded according to the Traffic Management Bureau of the Public Security Ministry. A survey has shown that about 90 percent of 200 cars tested were found to have an interior air quality problem due to excessive formaldehyde and benzene. However, with the development of photocatalyst, this issue will not exist anymore.

By the way, another advantage of tungsten trioxide photocatalyst is that, theoretically speaking, as a catalyst it will not be consumed, so its effect should be permanent.
