Carbide is the base component of most varieties of metals and metal-based products -- from drill bits to wedding rings. An exceptionally hard element -- similar in density to a diamond -- carbide is commonly used in aeronautic construction and is highly resistant to elevated temperatures and water. Polishing a carbide ring requires a few simple supplies and adds a brilliant sheen to the ring's surface.
Instructions
1
Place three droplets of mild soap into a small dish. A dish with a lipped edge -- a small bowl, for example -- is preferable.
2
Add 3 inches of distilled water to the bowl. Place the carbide ring into the water.
3
Brush the carbide surface with a clean toothbrush. Keep ring and toothbrush submerged in soapy water while you brush. A toothbrush with soft bristles should be used to ensure the surface does not scratch. Continue until all areas of the surface are thoroughly brushed.
4
Pull ring out of water and dry with a clean, soft cloth. Use firm, round strokes with the cloth along the surface of the ring to complete the polish.
