Tungsten alloy properties are sensitive to impurity substances, atmosphere and cooling velocity. Impurity substances such as P, S or others segregating on grain boundary will descend anchoring strength on interface so that descend tungsten alloy properties. Improper control of cooling velocity will produce mesophase or make impurity substances segregate on grain boundary.
So, thermal treatment is necessary for sintered tungsten alloy to improve sintered tungsten alloy properties. Thermal treatment contains quenching, rapid cooling, dehydrogenation in atmosphere and surface hardening. It aims at descending the segregation of impurity substances on interface and hydrogen embrittlement, improving tungsten alloy properties or satisfying the requirements for other properties. Utilizing thermal treatment can eliminate hydrogen embrittlement and phosphorous embrittlement, decreasing the segregation of impurity substances on interface and improving boundary strength of tungsten alloy. That will improve strength and elongation of tungsten alloy.
