Fine Particle Violet Tungsten Oxide Preparation

As a new material, ultra-fine particles are used more and more widely. Ultra-fine tungsten powder or tungsten carbide powder as the raw material for the production of ultra-fine grained cemented carbide has also received great attention from metallurgists. A lot of research has been done on the production of ultrafine tungsten powder or tungsten carbide powder at home and abroad. 

At present, there are three main research directions for the preparation of ultrafine tungsten powder: one is to improve on the basis of the existing blue tungsten technology; the other is to use new reduction methods, such as hydrogen reduction of halide; and the third is to use laser and fluidization, and other new technologies. Literature studies have found that under the same hydrogen reduction process conditions, purple tungsten W18O49 or WO2.72 has finer particles than tungsten powder made from blue tungsten. In this paper, the preparation of active fine particle violet tungsten oxide-purple tungsten oxide by direct reduction with APT as raw material and its particle size control conditions were studied.

Using APT as a raw material, it can be directly reduced under wet hydrogen conditions to obtain purple tungsten. The process flow is short and the equipment is simple. The particle size of purple tungsten oxide depends on factors such as hydrogen humidity, reduction temperature, heating rate, raw material particle size, and material layer thickness. Studies have shown that low hydrogen humidity, low reduction temperature, slow heating rate, small raw material particle size, and thin material layer are beneficial to the preparation of fine particles of purple tungsten oxide.
