Nano Tungsten Oxide Applied for Thermal Insulation Material

Nano tungsten oxide may be used to prepare thermal insulation material such as thermal insulation dispersion, thermal insulation coating, and thermal insulation film. And these heat insulation materials have wide applications in construction and automotive glass where requiring high heat insulation and high transparency. In this regard, experts say that the tungsten oxide nanopowder needs to be reduced to WO3-x to have near-infrared absorption, that is, to exert thermal insulation performance. Because the optical properties of tungsten oxide powder are related to its phase and morphology, experts have conducted SEM analysis on tungsten oxide nanopowder before and after reduction. The figure below shows the SEM photograph of nano WO3 powder before and after reducing at 500°C for 2h.

It can be seen from figure (a) that the dispersibility and uniformity of tungsten oxide nanopowder before reduction are good, and the average particle size is about 100nm, which is basically consistent with the analysis result of XRD. It can be observed from figure (b) that the reduced tungsten oxide nanopowder has a rod-like structure, and its micro-morphology has undergone a large change, indicating that high temperature treatment of H2/N2 mixed gas has a significant effect on original nanoparticles. The particles undergo rod-like polymerization. Meanwhile, the experts also found that when the reduction temperature is further increased to 800°C, the average length of the cross section of the reduced rod-shaped nanoparticles is about 200nm.
