Discovery of Large-scale Tungsten-Molybdenum Ore Bodies in Bobai County, Yulin, Guangxi

In 2024, the Sixth Geological Team of Guangxi made significant progress in the "Geological Survey and Evaluation of Tungsten-Molybdenum Polymetallic Ore in Daqiao, Luchuan County - Ningtan, Bobai County, Yulin City" project implemented in Jingkou Town, Bobai County, Yulin City. The discovery of multiple tungsten-molybdenum ore bodies has further revealed the mineral resource potential of this area.

Through systematic exploration, the project has delineated 46 tungsten (molybdenum) ore bodies. In 2024, 19 new ore bodies were discovered in the Xinxiu survey area, among which ore bodies No. 18 and No. 19 are of a larger scale, demonstrating promising resource potential.

The Ningtan tungsten-molybdenum polymetallic ore district in Bobai County is located in the Yunkai metallogenic belt. This area features complex geological structures and has undergone multiple stages of basin sedimentation, tectonic movements, and magmatic activities, forming favorable ore-forming conditions. The ore bodies are mainly hosted in the siliceous rock layers of the lower part of the fourth member of the Dongchong Formation of the Middle Ordovician Series. The strata strike northeast and dip northwest or southeast. The regional tectonic unit belongs to the Cenxi-Bobai depression zone. The intense tectonic magmatic activities during the Indo-Yanshanian period are closely related to ore-forming processes, making this area an important concentration zone for tungsten, molybdenum, lead, zinc, and other polymetallic ores in Guangxi.

To reveal the characteristics of deep ore bodies, the project team comprehensively utilized various technical means such as mapping, trenching, and drilling to conduct deep verification of ore prospecting targets such as Baishitian and Xinxiu. Systematic sampling and testing were also carried out to analyze parameters such as ore grade and thickness. The exploration results show that the newly discovered ore bodies have regular shapes, stable grades, and significant enrichment of tungsten and molybdenum metal elements, possessing considerable resource development value.

It is worth noting that early exploration work in this area can be traced back to the 1970s. The Sixth Geological Team of Guangxi has continuously conducted surveys over three generations, accumulating a wealth of basic geological data. This exploration, based on historical data and combined with modern ore prospecting theories and technical methods, has achieved a breakthrough in ore discovery.

Industry insiders point out that the discovery of the Ningtan tungsten-molybdenum ore in Bobai County has not only enriched the types of mineral resources in the Yunkai metallogenic belt but also injected new impetus into local economic development. As important strategic metal resources, tungsten and molybdenum have broad application prospects in high-end manufacturing, new energy, and other fields. With the continuous advancement of exploration work, the resource potential of this mining area is expected to be further unleashed, providing important support for regional economic development.
