Baotou City Rare Earth Industry Increased by 18% from January to August 2025

Recently, the Baotou Industry and Information Technology Bureau reported that from January to August 2025, the added value of industries above the designated size in Baotou increased by 10.4% year-on-year, surpassing the national average (6.2%) and the regional average (5.9%) by 4.2 and 4.5 percentage points, respectively, achieving double-digit growth for 60 consecutive months. Among these, the added value of Baotou's rare earth industry increased by 18.8% year-on-year.
By the three major sectors, the added value of mining increased by 18.2% year-on-year, manufacturing increased by 9.1%, and the production and supply of electricity, heat, gas, and water increased by 8.6%. By key industries, the added value of the three flagship industries—rare earth, crystalline silicon photovoltaic, and onshore wind power equipment—increased by 18.8%, 8.4%, and 25.3% year-on-year, respectively, collectively contributing 5.2 percentage points to the growth of the added value of industries above the designated size. Additionally, the added value of the aluminum industry and equipment manufacturing increased by 4.4% and 10.9%, respectively. From the perspective of innovation and development, the added value of strategic emerging industries in the city increased by 12.5% year-on-year; the added value of the five major new industries increased by 23.6%, accelerating by 3 percentage points compared to the previous month; among these, hydrogen energy and energy storage increased by 1.9 times and 47.9%, respectively.
From January to August 2025, Baotou's fixed asset investment increased by 5.0% year-on-year, surpassing the national average (0.5%) by 4.5 percentage points but falling short of the regional average (5.2%) by 0.2 percentage points. From the investment structure perspective, the proportion of investment across the three industries was 1.9:80.6:17.5, with the investment scale of the secondary industry further expanding, its share increasing by 6.6 percentage points compared to the same period. By growth rate, investment in the primary industry decreased by 26.8% year-on-year, investment in the secondary industry increased by 14.4%, and investment in the tertiary industry decreased by 20.5%. By investment field, Baotou's wind power industry investment increased by 2.8 times year-on-year, contributing 10.6 percentage points to overall investment growth; hydrogen energy and energy storage industry investments increased by 6.0% and 31 times, respectively, collectively contributing 2.8 percentage points to investment growth. From the perspective of investment momentum, Baotou saw 496 new projects registered, an increase of 52 compared to the same period, with completed investment increasing by 63.4%, driving overall investment growth by 26.2 percentage points; the city initiated 178 industrial projects with investments exceeding 100 million yuan, an increase of 57 compared to the same period, with completed investment increasing by 1.1 times.
