Strategic Minerals plc has started production of tin and tungsten from the Penouta mine at its Redmoor project, 25 kilometers from Plymouth, UK. Meanwhile, the crushing plant is in the final stages of commissioning.
The mine is expected to produce 90 tons of concentrate per month in the first half of the year and 100 tons per month in the second half. The concentrate is expected to contain approximately 70% tin and 30% tantalum. Strategic Minerals has a short-term offtake agreement for tin concentrate with a major international trading company.
"The commencement of open pit production at our Penouta mine is an important step in the production of concentrate from tailings," said Jaime Perez Branger, CEO of Strategic Mining, "which will result in incremental production and cash flow, with rollout proceeding as expected. All plant equipment required for open-pit production is being delivered on budget."
Strategic Minerals plc is a minerals production and development company. Registered in the UK and listed on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange. Mining at Redmoor dates back to the 18th century and operated until 1892. the Redmoor mine was reopened between 1907 and 1914, and again in 1934. Historically, the area produced 574 tons of tin, 268 tons of tungsten trioxide, 852 tons of copper, 153 tons of lead, and 9,179 ounces of silver.
The Redmoor project of Strategic Minerals is located between the village of Kelly Bray and the town of Callington in southeast Cornwall, UK, approximately 25 km from the city and port of Plymouth and 40 km from the recently commissioned Drakelands tungsten mine and processing plant. The area has excellent infrastructure and is located in the historically important Cornish tin-tungsten-copper mining region.
The original Redmoor Mine was part of a combination of Redmoor, Holmbush, and Kelly Bray mines that opened in the 18th century and operated until 1892 when low tin prices forced their closure. Portions of the Redmoor Mine were reopened between 1907 and 1914, and again in 1934. Historical records show operations at the Redmoor Mine, Kelly Bray Mine, and Wheal Florence Mine.
