I. Analysis of China’s Rare Earth Price Trends in May 2025

According to CTIA GROUP LTD, the overall price trend of rare earth products in China during May 2025 showed an initial increase followed by a slight decline, with the end-of-month prices for most products higher than at the beginning of the month.

For instance, praseodymium-neodymium metal price increased by approximately 30,000 yuan/ton, praseodymium-neodymium oxide price by about 23,000 yuan/ton, and terbium oxide price by around 400 yuan/kg this month.

2025 January-May rare earth products price chart

In early May, following the end of the May Day holiday, downstream users exhibited strong restocking sentiment. Combined with rising overseas rare earth prices, limited imports of rare earth products in China, and rapid growth in emerging industries, suppliers raised their quotes, driving a sustained price increase in the first half of the month. In late May, as downstream demand failed to keep pace as expected, China’s export controls on rare earths were further strengthened, and manufacturers maintained normal production rhythms, leading to a faster accumulation of spot inventory. Additionally, with rare earth prices at relatively high levels, some holders showed a strong desire to take profits, resulting in a price pullback. However, supported by production costs, the price decline remained modest.
