China Cobalt Price - September 1, 2020

China cobalt price declines slightly as the supply in the market is expected to increase in the short term and the demand side is relatively weak. Recently, import of cobalt raw material has decreased sharply due to the spread of coronavirus, but with the gradual resumption in companies and recovery in logistics, and Congo exempting from export ban, the supply of cobalt ores may be stable in the market. 

Lithium price remains stable owing to continued stalemate between supply and demand, low demand growth and negative impact of overseas epidemic on the macroeconomic and trading environment. Zhang Jiangfeng, secretary-general of the Lithium Branch of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, analyzed that the output of lithium concentrate abroad will be greatly reduced in 2020, and the output of lithium salt will slightly decrease due to the impact of the epidemic. For the future lithium salt market, it is recommended to focus on the future production and sales growth of new energy vehicles and the development of lithium resources at home and abroad.

Nickel price remains firm thanks to the improvement of supply and demand fundamentals. In terms of supply, although Indonesia's imports of iron and nickel have increased, the ban on ore mining and the impact of the epidemic on logistics and transportation have kept raw nickel ore in shortage. In terms of demand, the recent increase in consumption in the stainless steel market and the gradual recovery of the new energy automobile industry have significantly increased the demand for stocking in the market, driving the focus of trading upward.
