Nano WO3 can be used to prepare a smart window. The tungsten trioxide nanoparticles exist on the smart glass in the form of an electrochromic film (as an EC layer), which has the characteristics of stable performance and good optical adjustment. Finally, such glass can play the role of heat insulation and heat preservation on buildings or autos.

Experts introduced that in the past, electrochromic windows were usually liquid electrolytes, which were corrosive. Later, a conventional lithium ion conductive polymer solid electrolyte composed of a lithium salt and a long-chain polymer matrix was selected. But its ionic conductivity was very low at room temperature, which was unfavorable for practical use. From a practical point of view, the solid electrolyte has a room temperature ionic conductivity of at least 10-4S/cm for the all solid state smart window to work effectively at room temperature. In order to improve the room temperature ionic conductivity of polymer electrolytes, a new class of unconventional lithium ion conductive polymer electrolyte-gel electrolytes has been developed in recent years, and its room temperature conductivity can be as high as 1mS/cm. For example, some experts have assembled WO3 and Prussian blue complementary smart windows using a polymethylmethacrylate gel electrolyte with room temperature high ionic conductivity (2x10-3S/cm).
