Rare Earth Coating on Glass Saves Energy by 25%~40%

Recently, Baotou Rare Earth Research Institute's EASTO.1098 heat-insulating rare earth coating on glass was recognized as the first batch of new materials at the Inner Mongolia autonomous region level in 2020.
"In terms of functionality, the material can be directly coated on the surface of the glass, and it can cool down within 3 hours, with a maximum adjustable temperature of 7-15 degrees, and an energy saving of 25%-40%." Said Dr. Yin Jian from the Tianjin Branch of the Baotou Rare Earth Research Institute.
The coating is a stable and high-performance rare earth nanocomposite thermal insulation coating product prepared by the Rare Earth Research Institute and Easyto company through the preparation and performance screening of ternary rare earth co-doped boride materials.
At present, the most widely used infrared absorption material-cesium tungsten bronze material, which holds the best infrared absorption effect. However, it will appear photochromic under ultraviolet radiation and will interact with water and oxygen under heating.
The rare earth coating is based on rare earth compounds. Due to strong electronegativity of boron atoms, it can form a strong force with REEs, so that the final rare earth nano thermal insulation material possesses excellent acid and alkali resistance. The outer layer electrons of the rare earth elements provide a large amount of free electrons. When the photon of the incident light is excited, the free electrons resonate with the incident photon, which is expressed as heat absorption capacity.
In addition, by adjusting the type and doping amount of REEs, the wavelength range in which incident photons resonate can be further controlled. Using this method, the R&D team has successfully developed a high-performance rare earth nanocomposite thermal insulation material with good weather resistance.
Under the same circumstance, the double silver LOW-E insulating glass has an infrared heat value of 3417 and the double silver LOW-E owns an ultraviolet value of 4857, and the infrared heat value of the insulated rare earth laminated glass is 320, the ultraviolet value of the insulated rare earth laminated glass is 19.4.
"At present, we have built the first domestic pilot production demonstration line of rare earth nano thermal insulation slurry with a monthly output of 800 kg, which can save energy by 25% to 40%," said Yang Jue, general manager of Easyto, the developed coating index is equivalent to or even better than that of foreign products.
The problem of building energy consumption is severe in China. The total building area in our country is huge, and more than 90% of it uses ordinary one rather than the functional rare earth coating one. According to the calculation of domestic's energy-saving targets in 2010, an average of about 1.32 billion square meters of thermal insulation glass is added every year. The market for rare earth nano thermal insulation materials is in huge demand.
