Tungsten Iridium Stream Mouth

When I receive tungsten iridium stream mouth as my product, I think it as an alloy of tungsten and iridium. But after discussion with our manufacturing department, I found what I was thinking is really a mistake. 

This stream mouth is made with a body of tungsten and inserted a tube made of iridium, instead of the whole part to be an alloy of tungsten and iridium.

Iridium tube is used because of its advantages of anti-corrosion, high erosion resistance, insoluble in acids, good plasticity, and high elasticity modulus. And the body of tungsten is used also takes of its high density over 17.7g/cm3, high corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and high erosion resistance to lots of acids. Owing to these good properties, the tube is applied together with the body of tungsten part to be used in many industries, such as refractory ceramics, rare earth metal smelting, induction furnace heating and quartz glass melting.

The bonding of tungsten body and iridium tube has been the most difficult production process for the stream mouth. If the part is not bonded well, the tube is easily dropped, and the lifetime of the stream mouth is shortened, installation times are increased, production time is shortened, too. As a result, the manufacturing cost is going up a lot. Therefore, the dealing of the bonding has been very important.

In China, this part owns its standard with number of YS/ T 854-2012, which has clarified the standard dimensions of tungsten body and iridium tube, testing method, packing, labeling and the suitable applied industries. Based on the standard parts, both the tungsten body and iridium tube can be customized according to the detail requirements from customers, or the improved solutions after using the standard type, such as thicken the iridium tube or higher the tungsten body.
