A Promising Semiconductor Photocatalytic Material: Yellow Tungsten Oxide

It is reported that yellow tungsten oxide, is not only a typical n-type semiconductor material, but a promising semiconductor photocatalytic material. Yellow tungsten oxide, also known as tungsten trioxide or WO3, is considered to be a semiconductor photocatalytic material with great development potential due to its high solar energy utilization rate, good visible light response and strong photocorrosion resistance, and has been widely used in hydrogen production from photolysis water and catalytic degradation of organic pollutants.

The reports also introduced that higher photogenerated electron-hole recombination efficiency on the surface of WO3 semiconductor is one of the main factors affecting its photocatalytic performance, thus limiting the industrial application of yellow tungsten oxide in the field of photocatalysis. While photocatalytic technology is considered to be one of the effective means to solve environmental pollution and energy crisis, photocatalytic reactions using semiconductors such as WO3 as catalysts have attracted widespread attention and have aroused great interest from governments and scientists of various countries.
