Ammonium Paratungstate Process Introduction and Market Overview

Ammonium paratungstate is the main raw material of tungsten industry. In a sense, it is a kind of purified tungsten concentrate, that is to say, the tungsten concentrate containing 60% bustard is purified to the intermediate products containing more than 88.5% tungsten oxide. In the final application products of tungsten, more than 70% are made of apt as the main raw material, while the rest are made of ferrotungsten, metatungsten, tungstic acid and waste tungsten.

Among them, the ion exchange method is widely used in APT plants in China. Its raw materials can be wolframite concentrate and black-and-white mixed wolframite concentrate (generally, Ca content is required to be controlled at 8% to make tungstic acid and sodium tungstate, and about 10% of apt is made from raw materials other than wolframite concentrate). Most of the product quality can meet the requirements of national standard 0 APT. Due to the use of high-quality tungsten raw materials or unique control technology, some APT manufacturers have made breakthroughs in physical properties of APT, mainly reflected in crystal shape, crystal appearance and particle size.

The main shortage of ion exchange method is the large amount of wastewater discharge, and the environmental protection pressure is a major problem faced by the existing apt industry in China. At present, there are two universities in China that have some innovations in APT production technology. One is the closed-loop refining technology of scheelite constant system of Jiangxi University of science and technology, and the other is the refining technology of extraction processing of low-grade tungsten ore of Central South University. These two kinds of technological projects were put into industrial test in Ganzhou Jiangxi and Laichuan Henan.

China's production is concentrated in Jiangxi and Hunan, and the most concentrated area is Ganzhou Jiangxi. In 2011, the APT production of Ganzhou City reached 45000 tons, accounting for more than half of the national apt production.
