Tungsten Disulfide Lubricated Reflecting Telescope

Tungsten disulfide can be used to lubricate the relevant parts of the reflecting telescope. And Newtonian telescope is a main kind of reflecting telescope. The excellent observation ability of the telescope depends on the lubrication and maintenance of the parts.

Reflecting telescope, which is equipped with a concave reflector with paraboloid, is a kind of astronomical telescope. The light entering the lens is gathered and then reflected to a plane mirror at the front of the lens tube. Next, the light is reflected again to the eyepiece outside the lens tube by the plane mirror, so as to obtain the image of the star. There are various types of reflecting telescope. And Newtonian telescope is the most typical one.

Newtonian telescope is composed of parabolic primary mirror and plane secondary mirror. And the plane secondary mirror is placed in front of the focus of the light, which is reflected from the primary mirror at angle of 45 degrees to the optical axis. This kind of telescope has the following advantages:

1. Simple structure.

Telescopes with large aperture are usually reflecting telescopes.

2. Easy to carry.

The lens tube of the telescope is only 500 mm. However, the focal length reaches 1000 mm.

3. High contrast.

The imaging contrast of the telescope is large, which means the high-quality astronomical pictures can be obtained.

4. Large focal ratio.

The focal ratio of the reflector is large, which is between f/4 and f/8. The larger focal ratio, the higher exposure efficiency. So this kind of telescope is suitable for observing extragalactic galaxies and nebulae.

5. Strong ability to gather light.

A bright image can be obtained at the focus.

However, Newtonian telescope also has some shortcomings as follows:

1. Poor stability of imaging. The open lens tube makes the air easy to circulate, which affects the stability of imaging.

2. The fragile objective lens. The objective lens of the telescope is easily broken during the use.

3. Not suitable for ground landscape observation.

Whether it is a Newtonian telescope or a reflection telescope with other design, the parts need to be lubricated regularly, so as to prevent the bad influence on the observation. Tungsten disulfide can be used as lubricating material. It is very lubricious and can reduce the wear between parts effectively.
