Tungsten tailings are gangue minerals that remain after tungsten concentrate is selected from tungsten ore. The main mineral components include garnet, quartz and mica. For a long time, tungsten tailings, as a kind of solid waste, have been piled on the surface or backfilled into the mine. At present, there is no really efficient and large-scale way to utilize tungsten tailings.
Wear-resistant materials are widely used in chemical industry, construction and electronics. They have broad market prospects and important strategic significance. Among them, quartz sand and silicon carbide are the main wear resistant materials used in wear resistant coatings and wear resistant floors. These materials mainly come from pure minerals or synthetic materials with relatively high cost.
The garnet content in high hardness tungsten tailings is high, the hardness is high and the fineness is suitable. As a wear resistant material, it has the natural advantages of stable performance, wide source and low price.
Selective grinding refers to the phenomenon that the material with non-uniform mechanical properties is grinded down with low strength and retained with high strength in the grinding process. The hardness of garnet in tungsten tailings is greater than that of other mineral components. During the grinding process, garnet is enriched in coarse grains. Garnet with high purity and uniform fineness can be obtained by classifying coarse grains. Airflow grinding is grinding without grinding medium, and the material is grinded by collision between particles, so the phenomenon of selective grinding is more obvious.
It is reported that tungsten tailings in China are used to produce cement mixtures, glass-ceramics, ceramics, unburned bricks and so on. However, there are some shortcomings in low-end products, such as complex process, low added value and limited application. Wear-resistant materials can be obtained by pre-screening, physical separation, ultra-fine processing and powder classification of tungsten tailings, which can be used to prepare wear resistant coatings and find a way to utilize tungsten tailings as solid waste with high added value.
The method of preparing wear resistant materials from tungsten tailings is characterized by making full use of the selective grinding effect of high hardness components in tungsten tailings on soft minerals, designing appropriate processing technology, and adopting the following steps: drying tungsten tailings to less than 5% moisture content, screening with 200 target quasi-screening, and gravity-magnetic separation of products under screening. After separation, the product is pulverized by airflow, the ultrafine tungsten tailings are classified, and the wear resistant material is obtained by taking more than 600 meshes of the product.
The preparation of wear resistant materials from tungsten tailings is simple. The garnet in tungsten tailings can be fully utilized to produce wear resistant materials. The wear resistant materials can be used in coatings. The mechanical properties such as wear resistance, surface hardness and strength of coatings composite products can be improved, and the comprehensive utilization value of tungsten tailings can be greatly improved. Good economic and social benefits.
