Graphene Supported Tungsten Carbide Catalyst

Hydrogen is a green alternative to fossil fuels. It is of great significance to prepare and store hydrogen on a large scale and at a low cost.

In order to obtain efficient and inexpensive non-noble metal electrocatalysts, a novel graphene supported tungsten carbide catalyst has been reported. The synthesis process of the catalyst includes:

(1)Using tungsten-containing heteropoly acid, polymer conductor and graphene as raw materials, the tungsten heteropoly acid-polymer conductor-reduced graphene composite was synthesized by one-pot method.

(2)Tungsten carbide catalyst supported on reduced graphene was prepared by heat treatment at 700-1100 ℃ for 2-5 h, cooling and pickling under the protection of inert gas.

Among them, tungsten heteropoly acid-polymer conductor-reduced graphene ternary composites can be prepared by green one-pot method. There is no waste in the synthesis process, and it can effectively prevent the agglomeration of tungsten heteropoly acid and reduced graphene. The results also show that the prepared catalyst has small size, uniform distribution, porous structure, strong binding between tungsten carbide and graphene carrier with strong conductivity, which makes the catalyst possess high efficiency of hydrogen production from electrolytic water. Its initial potential is 0-30 mV (relative standard hydrogen electrode), Tafel slope. It is 33.6-70.1 mV dec-1, and maintains good stability after continuous operation for 10-20 hours.
