Tungsten Carbide Composite Wear-Resisting Surfacing Layer for Dredging

Wear is dredging ship flow parts (such as pump, impeller, blade etc.) the main wear form, dredging ship flow on sand abrasion by domestic and international dredging industry parts. In order to improve the anti abrasion performance and service life of the flow of vulnerable parts, usually adopts the method of hardfacing in parts of the working surface (such as reamer, mud pump, impeller, anti abrasion ring wear surface) surfacing wear-resistant layer to improve its wear resistance and service life.

Tungsten carbide has super high hardness and wear resistance, and has good wettability with common metals. It is usually used to prepare special composite wear-resistant material, which is made up of metal matrix (or peptide metal) and hard phase (i.e. tungsten carbide ceramic particles). Tungsten carbide surfacing alloy is the most suitable for work in a mild or moderate strong impact abrasive wear conditions, and has excellent anti-wear properties. Tungsten carbide ceramic composite wear-resistant layer can be used arc welding, welding, infiltration of oxygen acetylene flame welding, induction cladding welding and other preparation methods. Different surfacing method, carbonization tungsten composite hardfacing layer wear performance will have great difference.

The common technology of tungsten carbide coating is surfacing and spray welding. Generally speaking, for thick works such as dredging and other engineering pieces, the thick coating can be formed, and the requirements for spraying equipment and technicians are low. Therefore, surfacing is the main spray coating method at present. And the method of surfacing is also varied because of the different objects. The spraying technology of tungsten carbide surfacing coating includes manual arc surfacing, infiltration surfacing, oxyacetylene flame surfacing, induction melting and so on.

Dredged object wear is essentially a solid-liquid two-phase abrasive wear, tungsten carbide wear-resistant composite surfacing is a metal-based tungsten carbide ceramic particle reinforced composite wear-resistant materials, the results of sediment abrasion test are composed of relatively soft metal matrix and high hardness tungsten carbide particles. The results show that tungsten carbide surfacing layer has excellent abrasive wear resistance, and its mechanism of sediment wear is different from that of conventional single material.
