Steel bond hard alloy is a new type of tooling material developed on the basis of tungsten carbide. It is a hard alloy which uses carbides (WC, TiC, etc.) are used as hard phases, and steel is used as bond phase. In the last century at the end of 50s and early 60s, titanium carbide hard alloy is successfully developed by American company and put into production. After that, countries have been involved in the field. The research of steel bond hard alloy in China began in the early 60s of last century.

 

 

History Abroad

In the mid-1950s, American companies put forward a method of making steel bonded cemented carbide by impregnation and liquid phase sintering, and made industrial production. After that, in order to meet the growing needs, a series of research work has been carried out to improve the production of steel bonded tungsten carbide year by year.

 

By 1967, production increased at a comprehensive annual growth rate of 35%. In 1974, the annual output of steel bond hard alloy was as much as 50t. Its use is rapidly expanded from the aspect of the tooling to the wear-resistant parts and machine parts working under the harsh conditions such as high temperature, corrosion, high stress and so on.

 

W.German is one of the countries that have developed and produced steel cemented carbide earlier. In 1963, W.German began to produce steel cemented carbide. After that, some new brands have been created to eliminate some old brands. Steel bonded cemented carbide has also developed in different degrees in other countries.

 

History in China

Since the early 60s of last century, the research of the steel bond hard alloy in China has made rapid development. The steel bond tungsten carbide that has been developed and put into production this year is made of high speed steel, steel bonded carbide, high manganese steel, steel bonded carbide, stainless steel bonded carbide, alloy steel, steel bonded carbide and so on. The research on the properties of steel bonded cemented carbide and heat treatment process has been deeply studied.
