Detonation spraying is one of the most effective spraying technologies to prepare high quality wear resistant coatings.
Tungsten carbide is the main component of cemented carbide because of its high melting point, high hardness, low friction coefficient and good wear resistance. Tungsten carbide coating is widely used in aerospace, automobile, metallurgy, machinery, water conservancy and other fields as an effective means to improve the performance of materials, in order to enhance the wear resistance of metal matrix and repair the worn parts.
The advantage of explosive coating tungsten carbide coating is 1. The workpiece thermal damage is small; 2. Coating thickness is easy to control, processing allowance is small, easy maintenance operation; 3. The surface roughness of explosive sprayed coating is low, which may be less than 1.60 um, and the roughness can reach 0.025 um after grinding; 4. In the process of spraying, carbide and carbide based powder materials do not produce carbon decomposition and decarburization, thus ensuring the consistency of coating composition and powder composition; 5. The oxygen consumption is low and the operation cost is low.
The industrial application shows that the microstructure of tungsten carbide coating affects the abrasive wear resistance. The bigger the particle size is, the worse the wear resistance is, and the residual stress is proportional to the wear resistance. In addition, the high temperature fretting wear performance of WC coating is good. When the temperature is high, the local sliding friction region and lower stability state appear, fretting wear is lower, and the coating has better wear resistance.
At present, the world's most successful detonation spraying is a patent obtained by Linde branch of Union Carbine Co in 1955. In 1985, explosive spraying equipment was successfully developed by the Institute of Aeronautical Materials of China Aerospace industry, in terms of the properties of WC/Co coating, the spray performance is close to the level of Union Carbine Co.
