There are many things that tungsten offers that no other wedding band can provide. Here is a short list of the very best tungsten advantages.
1. Scratch Resistance - Tungsten is the world's hardest metal. It is smelted at a temperature of over 6000°F, the highest of any metal. In addition to those properties, it is nearly impossible to scratch. That means that when you purchase a tungsten wedding band, you can rest assured it will look just as good 50 years from now as it will on your wedding day.
2. Bend resistant - Metals with less tensile strength bend and warp under pressure. That means that they can be reshaped or resided if necessary, but it also means that they can bend or change shape over time. While that is usually no more than an inconvenience day to day, if you are unfortunate enough to get your finger trapped in something, they can actually become dangerous. Tungsten rings don't carry that hazard.
3. Hypoallergenic - Tungsten rings that are made properly are hypoallergenic. That means you want to find tungsten carbide rings not tungsten alloys of a different type. Cheap tungsten rings are often alloyed with cobalt or nickel, both highly allergenic substances. Make sure to ask what is in your ring before you buy it. If you are going to wear a ring every day, getting cheaper alloys is asking for trouble.
4. Design - In general, when you go looking for a wedding band in gold or platinum, you choices of design are quite limited. This is so often the case and people will get married with a simple band and then switch out to something more interesting later on. Wouldn't you rather get one band that will stay with you forever? Tungsten bands come in many different styles. Some are carved, others etched, and some are blended with black tungsten creating a unique appearance unlike anything you can get with another metal.
The Dreaded Myth
Like titanium, tungsten is associated with a particular, erroneous myth. There is an urban legend that states that tungsten is too dangerous to use for rings since it can't be cut in case of emergency. That is not true. While tungsten does require special tools to cut, emergency rooms and jewelers are completely capable of dealing with tungsten rings. In fact, because tungsten doesn't bend, it can actually be safer to wear if you suffer a hand injury - it won't compress or cut off circulation to your finger.
This myth is probably resulted from the fact that tungsten can't be resided. The metal is too hard for such treatment, meaning if you outgrow your ring, you will need to replace it instead.

With Valentine's Day quickly approaching many are left wondering what to get their significant other. Although the traditional flowers and candies are nice it is typically overdone. What women and men like are gifts that unique, sentimental and affordable in this rough economy. One gift that would be sure to please is a Celtic Tungsten ring or bracelet. A Celtic tungsten ring or bracelet has the three components of being unique, sentimental and affordable. Below are a few popular Celtic symbols that represent love, life and family.
The Popular Claddagh Symbol
The hands that the ring represents holding the heart symbolize friendship while the heart is signifying love. The direction that the person wears the ring is also important. A ring worn on the left hand with the crown pointing away from the heart symbolizes that the person is married or engaged to be married. A Claddagh ring worn on the right hand with the crown pointing away from the heart symbolizes a person is interested in starting a relationship. Lastly, a person wearing a Claddagh ring on their right hand with the crown pointing towards the heart symbolizes a person that does not want to start a relationship.
Mo Anam Cara Ring
The Mo Anam Cara phrase symbolizes "My Soul Mate." This is a very popular phrase that is commonly requested as a special engraving on wedding bands or engagement rings. The Mo Anam Cara symbol may also accompany other symbols such as the popular Claddagh symbol or a cross for added symbolic meaning.
Celtic Knotwork Rings
The Celtic knotwork is found on many Celtic rings and bracelets. The Celtic weaving has many symbolic meanings depending on the knotwork chosen. Celtic knotwork could symbolize love, happiness, life, family and loyalty. Many times the Celtic knotwork would accompany other symbols such as a cross, initials or even the Claddagh symbol.
Cross Rings
Cross Rings signify love and religious beliefs. The cross can stand alone on a tungsten wedding band or accompany other symbols such as the Claddagh symbol or Celtic knotwork. Crosses that stand alone as the focal point of the ring are classically beautiful on their own.

The Secret of Tungsten Carbide Jewelry

The History
Tungsten (Swedish and Danish tung sten meaning "heavy stone", even though the current name for the element in Swedish is Wolfram) was first suggested to exist by Peter Woulfe in 1779 who examined wolframite and concluded that it must contain a new substance. In 1781 Carl Wilhelm Scheele ascertained that a new acid could be made from tungstenite. Scheele and Torbern Bergman suggested that it could be possible to obtain a new metal by reducing tungstic acid. In 1783 JosŽ and Fausto Elhuyar found an acid in wolframite that was identical to tungstic acid. In Spain later that year the brothers succeeded in isolating tungsten through reduction of this acid with charcoal. They are credited with the discovery of the element.
Like gold, silver and platinum, Tungsten is an element #74. It is naturally occurring and is one of the main elements responsible for the development of human civilization. Without tungsten, we would not have the incandescent light bulb as the filament inside the bulb is tungsten and has the toughness and resilience exceeding any other metal. In 1922 the Germans developed Tungsten Carbide as the material used in making better cutting tool bits for precision milling and cutting of steel. In World War II, tungsten played an enormous role in background political dealings. Portugal, as the main European source of the element, was put under pressure from both sides, because of its sources of wolframite ore. The resistance to high temperatures, as well as the extreme strength of its alloys, made the metal into a very important raw material for the weaponry industry.
Today tungsten carbide is in widespread use in the worldwide machinery of modern industry and is a darling super alloy that has made aerospace advances possible. And it is still the one little item that makes a light bulb work.
Tungsten Properties
Pure tungsten, that is, before alloying with any other material, is steel-gray to tin-white and is a very hard element. Tungsten can be cut with a hacksaw when it is very pure (it is brittle and hard to work when impure) and is otherwise worked by forging, drawing, or extruding. This element has the highest melting point (3422 ¡C) (6192 ¡F), lowest vapor pressure and the highest tensile strength at temperatures above 1650 ¡C (3000 ¡F) of all metals. Its corrosion resistance is excellent and any attack by a mineral acid is virtually imperceptible. Tungsten metal forms a protective oxide when exposed to air but can be oxidized at high temperature. When alloyed in small quantities with steel, it greatly increases its hardness.
Tungsten is: Four times stiffer than steel Six times stiffer than aluminum 100 times stiffer than plastic
Tungsten has the highest melting point and boiling point of all the elements, melting at 3,420 degrees C or 6,700 degrees F, and boiling at 5,700 degrees C and 10,300 degrees F. What this means to the average person is that on the surface of the Sun, Tungsten would become liquid, but if you dropped a piece of Tungsten from outer space, it would enter the EarthÕs atmosphere, heat up and glow to red color, and still hit the Earth in a solid piece.
Tungsten As Used in Jewelry
Tungsten Carbide has only recently been used in the fashioning of jewelry due to its hypoallergenic nature and the fact that due to its extreme hardness it is not apt to lose its luster like other polished metals. In fact, a ring or bracelet made from Tungsten Carbide will never need polishing and it is virtually scratchproof...only another item with a diamond or diamond surface or a special sapphire in it can scratch tungsten jewelry. Carefree Tungsten Carbide is made without the use of any Cobalt additive and not just anyone can make a piece of Tungsten Carbide jewelry. In order to manufacture a perfectly crafted piece of jewelry, it takes skill that only a few companies have mastered. It cannot be made in someoneÕs garage with a lathe and a machinist.
Jewelry With a Lifetime High Polish
Tungsten rings and bracelets are heavy, and Tungsten Carbide is the hardest of all metals. It is polished to a perfect mirror finish using diamonds, and, unlike other metals, it will retain the exact polish finish for decades to come.
The Distinction of Wearing an Exotic Metal
Because it has the highest melting point of any metal known, Tungsten Carbide is used in space age applications and leading edge military projects such as hand held nuclear fusion devices. The hardness and heat resistance of Tungsten Carbide renders it impervious to radiation. Its tough enduring qualities make it the perfect masculine metal for a manÕs ring or bracelet.
The Art and Science of Master Craftsmanship
Tungsten Carbide rings and bracelets are manufactured using sophisticated vacuum induction furnaces that require an oxygen free environment, and reaching an amazing temperature over 6,200 degrees F. If an astronaut dropped one of these rings from 300 miles above the earth, it would enter the atmosphere glowing red-hot and land on the surface of the Earth virtually unscathed by the experience.
Can a Tungsten Carbide Ring be Re-sized?
Unlike most other rings, a local jeweler cannot size Tungsten Carbide rings. It is just impossible to rework the material.
How to Care for your Tungsten Carbide Jewelry
Your jewelry will require very little care. Rubbing with any clean cloth will bring out and restore the bright finish, as it was on the day you first received the ring or bracelet. This jewelry is the only jewelry of any kind that will last a lifetime with no sign of wear. Buy it when you are age 20 and at age 70 it will look exactly the same.

Tungsten Rings are then newest thing in jewelry. They have such amazing qualities that allow for unparalleled beauty, style and design. But not every one knows the hidden gifts of this terrific metal.
If you have a magnificent tungsten ring and worried about how to take care of it, worry no more. Tungsten with its superior physical qualities make these rings virtually carefree. If your ring is a true tungsten or tungsten carbide ring the cleaning and care is very simple because it will hold its radiant shine forever. However it can accumulate fingerprints and maybe smudges. Get yourself a soft cloth or jewelry polish cloth, which will take care of the annoying prints and smudges.
Tungsten doesn’t scratch but once in a while it will look as though it may have been scratched. What has probably happened is that the ring has accidentally rubbed up against something else with metal and a part of the material has attached it’s self to the tungsten in your ring. This is a simple and painless thing to fix with out any problems. Find yourself a soft tooth brush and use a small amount of mild liquid soap. Gently brush to remove the foreign metal from your magnificent tungsten ring. Make sure to rinse the soap off, pat dry with a soft cloth and your ring is as good as new.
What to do if a Tungsten Ring is stuck on your finger.
Now what if that beautiful piece of tungsten artistry gets stuck on your finger? Easy use ice to reduce that size of your finger. Most of the time simply soaking your hand for about a minute will do the trick and the ring will slide off. Or you could try a lubricant of some kind. Liquid soap or petroleum jelly work rather well. Apply a generous amount to the knuckle area than hold the tungsten ring with a dry cloth and ease it off with a back and forth rocking motion. Clean the ring and all is grand.

about Tungsten Light Bulb
- Details
- Category: Tungsten Information
- Published on Tuesday, 22 January 2013 17:30
A tungsten light bulb refers generally to incandescent light bulbs, which are lights that generate light by heating a metal wire or filament with electricity until it becomes white hot and glows.
Definition
Tungsten light bulbs are named for the metal tungsten, a gray material that has an extremely high melting point. Because of its high melting point and its strength, it makes for a good filament in light bulbs. A filament is a metal wire that glows when electricity is channeled into it. Light bulbs that use this method to generate light with heat are called incandescent lights.
Popular in Photography
Tungsten light bulbs and other incandescent bulbs are often used in photography as an alternative to flash lights because the continuous light they provide allows photographers to see shadows. They pose some challenges, however. When used in a studio, the bulbs can make the room extremely warm. Since the light given off by tungsten bulbs is of a lower temperature than the sun, outdoor film is unsuitable for use with the lighting. Instead, photographers use special tungsten film or use a tungsten filter on the light or camera lens to make the colors in photographs appear more natural.
History
The history of tungsten light bulbs dates back more than 100 years. Modern tungsten light bulbs were developed by General Electric around 1906. Before that, inventors experimented with many other kinds of light bulbs with alternative filaments. However, other materials had lower melting points and did not last as long as tungsten bulbs.
Burning Out
Over time, tungsten filaments can wear out. The repeated heating of the metal causes it to slowly evaporate. The wire slowly gets thinner and more fragile until it breaks, either spontaneously or by jostling. If you drop a bulb and the glass doesn't break, shake it. If you hear a rattling sound, that means the tungsten filament wire has snapped and the two ends are slapping against each other.

Instructions - How to Paint Tungsten
- Details
- Category: Tungsten Information
- Published on Tuesday, 22 January 2013 16:59
For many years, sport anglers relied on lead weights to carry their lures to the bottom of a lake or river. However, biologists discovered that the toxic nature of lead posed a threat to aquatic life. Lost lead weights had begun to pollute the lakes and rivers. Fortunately, a safer alternative was found and, today, lead weights have been largely replaced by tungsten. If you are using a tungsten weight, you should paint it to camouflage the shiny surface before casting your line in the water.
Instructions
1
Clean the tungsten weight with a cloth and some rubbing alcohol. Allow it to dry.
2
Paint the weight in the color you've selected. Use enamel metal paint and a small paintbrush or strong nail polish and a nail polish brush. Let dry thoroughly. Apply a second coat.
3
Inspect your collection of tungsten weights before each fishing trip. Over time, the paint will begin to flake with repeated use. When this happens, sand off the flaking paint and reapply a new coat of paint, following the steps described above.
Tips & Warnings
Tungsten is a very dense and strong metal. Because the surface of a tungsten weight is so strong and smooth, the surface cannot be roughed up using normal tools and the paint will not adhere to the surface as well as it would to other metals.

Instructions - How to Use Tungsten Film
- Details
- Category: Tungsten Information
- Published on Tuesday, 22 January 2013 16:42
Tungsten film is used for studio photography. The color temperature of average daylight is 5,000 degrees Kelvin. The term "tungsten" refers to a color temperature of 3,200 degrees Kelvin. Therefore, tungsten film is designed to be used under studio lights of the same color temperature, called tungsten lights. If you use tungsten film outdoors instead of under tungsten lights, your photos will have a blue cast. Similarly, if you use a different type of film under tungsten lights, your photos will have a gold cast.
Instructions
1
Store your tungsten film in a dark location so it is not damaged by light.
2
Open the back of your camera and, while still in a dark location, place the tungsten film into the cylinder hub so it clicks in place and pull the leader of the film until it wraps slightly around the hub on the other end of the camera.
3
Close the back of the camera, turn the camera on and listen to the film load. If you do not hear a loading noise, you may have to open the camera and pull the leader a bit farther. Once the film is loaded, turn your camera off until you are ready to use it.
4
Situate your subject or props in the area where you plan to take photographs in your studio.
5
Set up your three tungsten lights on stands so your subject or props are evenly lit. You may have to move around the lights and raise and lower the stands until you reach the perfect lighting. Use light umbrellas if the lights are too bright for your space.
6
Turn on your camera and take photos as you normally would. When your film roll is complete, store it in a dark location and follow Steps 2-3 to reload your camera with another roll.
Tips & Warnings
Tungsten film can be purchased in most photography supply stores and is developed in the same way as any other type of film.

Tungsten Iridium Stream Mouth
---a special tungsten heavy alloy (WHA) part
The tungsten iridium stream mouth is as a special tungsten heavy alloy with other refractory metals. It mainly uses in rare-earth metal smelting, the induction furnace heating element, the quartz glass smelting and so on, makes the high temperature vessel.
In the glass and the ceramic industry, the tungsten class mouth is a ceramic micro production very essential part. The tungsten proportion is big, degree of hardness is big, the heat conduction electric conductivity good, heat-resisting, wear-resisting, anti-corrosive, has the low expansibility and the size stability under the high temperature. The tungsten melting point is highest when all metals (reaches as high as 3380 degrees Celsius), the steam tension to be lowest, the tensile strength is highest (1650°C), and its antiseptic property is good, the majority inorganic acid are very small to its corrosion.
Therefore it when manufactures the heavy metal alloy is ideal. But the tungsten and the iridium make the alloy, its abrasion resistance, degree of hardness, the intensity, the heatproof quality obtained the further promotion, thus has guaranteed the product uniformity well. Is precisely these precious performance, causes it to become now in the high-tech crystal glass industry the indispensable equipment component.
