Chinese Tungsten Prices Retreated Following Environmental-Related Halts

Chinese tungsten prices retreated in the week to Friday August 3 after ammonium paratungstate supply from China resumed following the end of environmental-related halts in Jiangxi province. 

Environmental-related production suspensions at smelters in China’s Jiangxi province began in May, leading to supply tightness. But prices are retreating now that the suspensions have ended. Market participants are very reluctant to get back to the market and there are plenty of offers around with supply side not being an issue any more. 

It is difficult to find low-price materials in the tungsten market and buyers appear reluctant to trade in a weakening market, so trading volumes do not increase. The new guide prices from institutions and large tungsten enterprises will soon be released at the beginning of August and market participants mainly wait and see.
