Tungsten Ore Flotation Organic Inhibitor – Tannin

Of all tungsten ore flotation inhibitor, sodium silicate is the most widely applied one. When it encounters with gangue, it can not help as well. Organic inhibitor has diverse structure, has good selectivity for mineral, also is promoted due to it is environmental friendly.

In tungsten ore flotation, tannin as inhibitor, has big molecular weight and long molecular chain. It is mainly used to inhibit calcite, fluorite and apatite, also is the bane of calcium and magnesium minerals.

Chemical formula of tannin is C76H52O46, it is widely spread in plantage, is an important secondary metabolism product. Tannin is abundant in wine, however, it would be expensive if we use wine as inhibitor. In industry, tannin used for flotation is called tannin extract. It is different from wine, is slightly toxic.

Tannin extract is also called vegetable tannin agent, appearance is amorphous powder, it tastes bitter, is complex chemical blending, is used to produce oak bark, oak, spruce bark and hardwood tannin extract. Apart from polyhydric phenolic compounds tannin, it has other insoluble substance.

Research shows that mechanism of tannin extract is chemical absorption. First it uses chemical absorption, hydrogen bond force and double electric layer electrostatic force to react with surface of mineral, compete with collecting agent on the surface of mineral, or desorb collecting agent from surface. Tannin extract absorbed on the surface of mineral has strong affinity to water. Since they have water affinity gene like –OH and –COOH, they can make surface of mineral affinity to water.

Tannin inhibitor has special effect on inhibiting calcite and other gangue. So it is the most widely applied in macromolecular inhibitor.
