Tungsten Scheelite Rougher Flotation

Tungsten scheelite mainly exists in skarn rock belt, coexist with mine containing calcium, tungsten scheelite is also called calcium tungstate ore. In beneficiation process, these calcium containing ore is obscure of tungsten scheelite purification. 

To separate them we need to use chemical method. The process is called flotation. The first step of flotation is rougher flotation.

Purpose of rougher flotation is to abandon calcium containing ore and separate tungsten. It is like audition in ‘talent show’ to prepare the next round concentration. No matter which flotation method is applied rougher flotation is necessary. It has five steps:

1. Mine grinding. Add explored tungsten scheelite into grinder, grind it into fine powder after multi-layer grinding. 80% of them are 0.074mm.

2. Desulfurization. If tungsten scheelite contains many metal sulfide, then desulfurization can be carried out in former step. Use xanthate collecting agent to float sulfur ore.

3. Room temperature rougher floatation. Add sodium carbonate and sodium silicic acid into grinded ore powder as adjusting agent. Then add oleic acid or sodium oleate or 731 agent as collecting agent, floating tungsten concentrate.

4. Processed into coarse ore. Concentrate tungsten scheelite to solid containing 60%~70% tungsten, Tungsten coarse scheelite is obtained. Rougher flotation is basically completed.

5. Scavenging. To save cost and improve rougher flotation efficiency, some enterprises will deal with remained ore powder from the first rougher flotation. The rest ore subsidy will be sent to tungsten tailing storeroom.
