1968 Dodge Dart

Many classic car enthusiasts love nothing more than a clean car restored to factory specifications. However, there is a subset of enthusiasts who prefer to alter the look and function of a classic car to a more aggressive set up. Hot rodders have a long history of lowering their rides to make them seem like they're moving fast even when they're standing still. Lowering a 1968 Dodge Dart requires a few tools, some new parts, and a weekend to dedicate to the project.

1.Lift the car onto the jack stands by using the floor jack. Make sure to raise the Dart enough to allow plenty of room underneath to work. Place each of the four wheels off of the ground, ensuring that the car is secure on the jack stands.

2.Remove the wheels from the front of the Dart. Detach the brake lines and disassemble the wheel hubs. Loosen the hex nut at the top of the spindle, which will free the spring and shock assembly. Slide out the spring.

3.Disconnect the shock at the upper and lower arms, and remove. Disassemble the front control and A-arm assemblies. Remove the spindles, then the ball joints.

4.Press the new bushings into the new suspension pieces, including the A-arms, control arms, ball joints and spindles.

5.Install the dropped ball joints, then the dropped spindles. These two replacements will drop the front end of the Dart considerably.

6.Reassemble A-arm and control arm assemblies. Install new, lower shocks and shortened springs, then reassemble the wheel hub and brake system. Replace the wheel and repeat this step for the other side of the front suspension.
