How to Make Dart Backboards

A game of darts can be fun for the whole family, but errant darts that land outside the board will leave holes in your wall or mar its finish. Protect the wall behind your dart board with a backboard that is inexpensive and easy to build. The backboard will provide an attractive setting for your dart board, your wall will last longer, and you won't wince every time a dart misses the target.

1.Cut a piece of Homasote or cork board 3 feet wide by 4 feet high, using a hand or circular saw. Smooth the cut edges with 120-grit sandpaper. If you wish, paint the Homasote the color of your choice.

2.Mark the locations of the wall studs with a stud finder and pencil.

3.Position the backboard against the wall, with the top of the backboard 7 feet 2 inches from the floor. Make sure the top of the board is level.

4.Attach the backboard to the wall with 1 1/4-inch wood screws. Use two screws per wall stud.

5.Mount the dart board to the backboard with 1/2-inch wood screws.
