Ferro-tungsten market was very quiet yesterday, but that was largely a result of European holidays. Today nearly all offers in the market are around USD46.00/kg W in warehouse Rotterdam. It is hoping to purchase a truckload at USD45.50/kg W in warehouse Rotterdam this morning but have nothing concrete yet so the deal is still in doubt. The main problem at the moment is finding material in Europe for prompt release. People are just sitting on their stock and watching the prices shoot up.

Since China adopted a positive and sound macroeconomic policy, the national economy grows rapidly, it results the rapid growth of the tungsten carbide demand. At the same time of tungsten carbide growth in demand, the production is also increasing from 14.5 thousand tons in 2006 to grow to 24 thousand tons in 2011, a compound annual growth rate reaches 10.60%.

Affected by the holiday of International Labor Day, the transaction in domestic tungsten market was quiet last week (Apr. 29-May 3, 2013), waiting for the guiding price for May to be published by Minmetals and Ganzhou Tungsten Association. The news that China's State Reserves Bureau (SRB) plans to buy about 100,000 t of tungsten conc. remained unconfirmed, but some of enterprises started to purchase tungsten concentrate. For example, China Molybdenum Co., Ltd sold 850 t Scheelite concentrate with transaction price of 1,810 yuan/mtu. The tungsten conc. price in domestic market went up slightly, compared with the previous week. While the price of ferrotungsten and tungsten carbide powder kept at 185,000-188,000 yuan/t and 288,000-292,000 yuan/t respectively.
