Tungsten Concentrate Historic Lowest Price

Tungsten concentrate historic lowest price seems like a question without answer. Price of any commodity can only reflect its price compared to other commodity and equivalence purchase power at that time. Theoretically, commodity price is index of exchange ratio with currency, price reflects value in currency. Price is transformation of commodity value in circulation process.

Since 1907 when Germany churchman found tungsten concentrate in south of Ganzhou, exploration of tungsten concentrate began. Exploration and trade of tungsten concentrate is consistent, during which there are different currency pricing system. So there is no exact answer for the lowest price. Below we list price in different period for your reference.

1. Tungsten Concentrate Price During Soviet Period in 1930s

In 1932, Mao Zedong and his brother Mao Zemin, who is the chief of Soviet Republic Bank of China, running Tieshanlong tungsten mine in Tieshanlong mineral area. After that, Mao Zemin invested from Soviet bank, founded China Tungsten Mine Company, which is now Jiangxi Tieshanlong Tungsten Company, and occupied as manager. In 1933, its totally exploration and purchasing amount is 4193 tons. Under situation of economic block by Jiang Jieshi, CPC concluded a secret deal with Chen Jitang for trading tungsten ore, export it via Canton. At that time, 50KG tungsten ore worthy 52 silver dollar. During 1932 to 1934 before long march of red army, tungsten ore trading volume reached 62 million yuan. It supports operation of Soviet government and living of ten thousands of Red Army, resists encircle and suppress of Kuomingtang’s economic block.

By calculation and integration of price and purchase power, one silver dollar equals to 1000 yuan RMB at present, regardless difference in WO3 content, 1 ton tungsten concentrate price equals to RMB 10.4 million yuan.

So we can see tungsten concentrate price is quite expensive at that time, that is why Red Army can solve difficulties of economic block by Kuomintang. From our point of view, it is improper to consider 158 thousand/ton of tungsten concentrate price as the highest price historically. It is more proper to say that in 1960s after RMB transformation, tungsten concentrate calculated in RMB ‘s highest price.

2. Tungsten Concentrate Price in 1990s

Since 1993 Chinatungsten Online started running tungsten products business, what impressed us is that from Year 1994 to 1995, tungsten concentrate price is 6000~6300 yuan /ton. It seems it is quite expensive. However, when we compared to other commodity price index at that time, we won’t hold the same attitude any more. At that time, price of house in Xiamen is 360yuan per square meter. In 2017, house price exceeds 50000yuan  per square meter. And tungsten concentrate price is 120 thousand yuan per ton. It is obvious that it is not cheap at all in 1994.

 Compare the present tungsten concentrate price with house price in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, which means 1ton tungsten concentrate can not even afford to buy a square meter. So the price is not high at all. If we use Marx theory to explain, how can we calculate the labor value of 1 ton tungsten concentrate and 1 square meter house?

3. Tungsten Concentrate Price Since the 21^st Century

In the early 21^st century, tungsten concentrate price is at low level. It reaches the lowest point in December for 19.7 thousand per ton. After that it goes up. In May, 2005, it reached 130 thousand per ton. And the price keeps flowing. In the middle of 2007, monthly price stays upper than 100 thousand yuan. So it is hard to tell what the historic lowest tungsten concentrate price is.
