Rare earth market update on June 11, 2025
The domestic rare earth market is maintaining a stable operation, primarily reflected in product prices fluctuating within a narrow range, traders largely adhering to rigid transactions, and moderate trading volumes. Today, praseodymium-neodymium oxide, erbium oxide, and dysprosium-iron alloy prices are stabilizing at approximately 449,000 yuan/ton, 305,000 yuan/ton, and 1,610,000 yuan/ton, respectively.
On the supply side, factors include: first, due to earlier low rare earth prices, stricter environmental policies, and high energy costs, the capacity release pace of many rare earth mining and smelting enterprises has slowed, leading to relatively tight raw material supply in the market recently; second, influenced by significant geopolitical risks, high international rare earth prices, and moderate purchasing power of the RMB, China’s import volume of rare earth products remains limited. On the demand side, magnetic material enterprises and other downstream rare earth producers are primarily engaged in need-based procurement, resulting in low market order growth. Notably, considering the reasonable demands and concerns of various countries in civilian applications, China has legally approved a certain number of compliant rare earth-related export license applications and will continue to strengthen the review process for compliant applications.
According to Phoenix TV, the first meeting of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism was held in London on June 9. A focal point of the discussions was whether China would, at the request of the U.S., accelerate rare earth exports to the United States. British media cited a senior fund manager’s view, noting that China accounts for 69% of global rare earth mining, which is critical to U.S. technological development. The market hopes this meeting will yield mutually acceptable outcomes for both sides.
