Rare Earth Market Update - February 27, 2025

Rare earth market update on February 27, 2025

Domestic rare earth prices fluctuate in a narrow range.

With the supply and demand relationship relatively balanced and no major news released in the market, the negotiation atmosphere between buyers and sellers is slightly stalemated, resulting in a weak trading atmosphere and slow order growth. Today, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium metal, terbium oxide and dysprosium-iron alloy are about 553,000 yuan/ton, 6,300 yuan/kg and 1,710,000 yuan/ton respectively.

According to China Tungsten Online, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium oxide have increased by about RMB 16,000/ton in the past two weeks, an increase of 3.68%; the prices of praseodymium-neodymium metal have increased by about RMB 14,000/ton, an increase of 2.60%; the price of terbium oxide has increased by about RMB 180/kg, an increase of 2.94%; the price of dysprosium oxide has increased by about RMB 20,000/ton, an increase of 1.16%; the price of 55N NdFeB blank blocks has increased by about RMB 6/kg, an increase of 2.87%; the price of NdFeB scrap (praseodymium-neodymium) has increased by about RMB 17/kg, an increase of 3.72%. It can be seen that the prices of rare earth raw materials and permanent magnet materials have increased significantly recently, which is mainly due to the relatively tight supply of mineral products and the increase in downstream inquiries. However, as the price of rare earth continues to rise, the willingness of buyers to accept goods has decreased to a certain extent.

Data from the United States Geological Survey showed that in 2024, the U.S. rare earth concentrate production was 45,000 tons, an increase of about 8.17% year-on-year; the production of rare earth compounds and metals was 1,300 tons, an increase of about 420% year-on-year; the import volume of rare earth compounds was 8,000 tons, a decrease of about 10.31% year-on-year; the import volume of ferrocerium and alloys was 220 tons, a decrease of about 15.06% year-on-year; the import volume of rare earth metals, scandium and yttrium was 90 tons, a decrease of about 81.09% year-on-year; the export volume of rare earth ores and compounds was 43,000 tons, an increase of about 107.73% year-on-year; the export volume of ferrocerium and alloys was 1,100 tons, an increase of about 34.64% year-on-year; the export volume of rare earth metals, scandium and yttrium was 320 tons, an increase of about 407.94% year-on-year; the apparent consumption of rare earth compounds and metals was 6,600 tons, a decrease of about 34.65% year-on-year.
