Rare earth market update on February 26, 2025

The domestic rare earth market, on the whole, shows a scenario of a price-driven but market-sluggish situation.

Today, the prices of several products keep rising. Specifically, the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide has increased by another 1,000 yuan per ton, the price of terbium oxide has gone up by another 20 yuan per kilogram, and the price of dysprosium oxide has risen by another 20,000 yuan per ton. According to China Tungsten Online, because of the strong and continuous environmental crackdown, relatively weak downstream demand, and high production costs, some rare earth manufacturers have cut their production recently. Moreover, the limited volume of imported minerals from Myanmar and the news that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is publicly soliciting opinions on the total-amount regulation of rare earths and information-traceability management measures have spurred suppliers to tentatively raise prices. As a result, the low-priced supply in the market has been gradually tightening. However, with the recent continuous increase in the price of rare earth raw materials, downstream users are increasingly reluctant to accept high prices.

In terms of news, the list of winners of the 2024 Rare Earth Science and Technology Award was announced recently. Five projects, in which units affiliated with China Northern Rare Earth either took the lead or participated, were included in the list. Among them, “Research on Key Technologies and Applications for Metallurgical Quality Control of High-Performance Rare Earth-Containing Magnesium Alloys” won the first prize; “Research on Key Technology for the Reduction of Precious Metals and Improvement of the Stability of Rare Earth Catalysts”, “Research on Key Technologies for the Preparation of High-Purity and Highly Dispersed Nanocerium Oxide by Spray Pyrolysis of Rare Earth Extraction Separation Liquids”, “Research on the Development of Resource Treatment Process for High-Salt Wastewater in the Rare Earth Industry”, and “Research on the Application of High-Efficiency Detection Technology in High-Purity Rare Earth Analysis” four projects won the second prizes.
