Xihuashan Tungsten Mine History (I)

Xihuashan is famous for its tungsten resource. It is the initiator of China tungsten mine exploration, and has a centennial exploration history.

In 1907, Germany preacher Wuliheng brought the picked tungsten concentrate back to German and did the test. After proving it is tungsten mine, he went back China and started tungsten exploration. He cheated local labors to do the exploration work for him and defraud to buy the property right and started pillage mineral and treasure.

Until 1908, local intellectuals brought tungsten concentrate to laboratory in Nanjing and found out that is it tungsten. Workers were indignant and made solemn presentation to Wuhengli to earn back property right of tungsten mine. Since then, local residents started tungsten exploration in small scale. China tungsten exploration history began.

Xihuashan is also the birthplace of revolutionary in China. In the early times of 1930, confronted with economic block of Jiang Jieshi from Kuo Min Tan, Communist Party of China Xihuashan Branch was established. The same year in winter, president of Soviet Republic Bank President Mao Zemin established ‘China Tungsten Ore Company’ in Soviet investment area. The company purchased tungsten ore in Xihuashan and Tie Shanlong, and shipped on board in Canton. It developed economy in Soviet area and maintained revolutionary.

In August 1949, Gannan was liberated. Government took over tungsten mine industry, established heavy industrial non-ferrous branch in Jiangxi. China tungsten industry enters into a new era.
