Rare earth market update on february 12, 2025
The domestic rare earth market as a whole maintained a sideways trend, with the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide falling by approximately RMB 5,000 per ton and the price of praseodymium-neodymium metal dropping by about RMB 2,000 per ton.
Meanwhile, the prices of mainstream medium and heavy rare earth products, as well as rare earth permanent magnet materials, remained relatively stable. This trend is primarily attributed to the significant rise in rare earth raw material prices after the Spring Festival, which has prompted many suppliers to take profits, while downstream demand has been slow to follow.
According to China Tungsten Online, since the Spring Festival, the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide has increased by approximately RMB 18,000 per ton, representing a 4.32% rise; the price of praseodymium-neodymium metal has risen by about RMB 26,000 per ton, marking a 5.06% increase; the price of terbium oxide has climbed by around RMB 210 per kilogram, up 3.52%; the price of dysprosium oxide has increased by approximately RMB 70,000 per ton, a 4.19% rise; the price of 55N NdFeB blank blocks has risen by about RMB 6 per kilogram, a 2.96% increase; and the price of NdFeB scrap praseodymium-neodymium has increased by roughly RMB 21 per kilogram, up 4.82%.
The Baotou Industry and Information Technology Bureau reported that in 2024, Baotou's rare earth, crystalline silicon photovoltaic, steel, and aluminum industries will serve as the "four pillars" of the local economy, with their output values each exceeding RMB 100 billion, reaching RMB 103.05 billion, RMB 100.75 billion, RMB 100.98 billion, and RMB 100.21 billion, respectively. In 2024, among the 30 key products monitored by Baotou City, the output of 15 products increased compared to the previous year. Notably, the output of rare earth compounds surged by 1.8 times, the output of single rare earth metals grew by 22.4%, and the output of rare earth magnetic materials increased by 58.8%.
