Cesium Tungsten Oxide Applied for Heat Insulating Glass Coating

Cesium tungsten oxide for producing heat insulating glass coating has the formula of CsxWO3. CsxWO3 is a type of tungsten bronzes that shows a stronger near-infrared shielding ability as well as high transparency in the visible light region than the transparent conductive oxides such as indium tin oxide (ITO), antimony tin oxide (ATO), zinc aluminum oxide (ZAO), and vanadium dioxide (VO2).

At present, transparent heat insulating glass coatings prepared from dispersion of transparent nano particles have been attracting wide attention owing to its convenient use in the building window glasses. Among them, many reports about transparent heat shielding coatings were mainly focused on the tungsten suboxides (WO3-x) and tungsten bronzes such as CsxWO3 particles. Especially, CsxWO3 with hexagonal structure exhibited higher near infrared shielding properties than ITO, and thus it is more desirable for applications to the transparent thermal insulation coatings, taking the place of other expensive transparent conductive oxides such as ITO and ATO.
