On February 24, according to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, from 2021 to 2024, the bureau carried out mineral exploration work for strategic minerals such as tungsten, rare earths, aluminum, manganese, tin, antimony, zirconium, nickel, fluorite, and other minerals urgently needed by industries such as quartz sand and calcium carbonate, promoting Guangxi's special exploration to achieve significant results. By the end of 2024, a total of 14 large and medium-sized deposits of strategic minerals such as rare earths, bauxite, manganese ore, fluorite, and tin have been discovered.
It is reported that the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources has fully played its role as the main force in Guangxi's mineral exploration, and has carried out researches on a series of mineralization theories and adopted a series of mineral exploration technology methods around sedimentary bauxite, manganese ore, shale gas, tungsten, tin, antimony and other minerals to support the breakthrough and achievement of mineral exploration.
Since the "14th Five-Year Plan", the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources has continuously produced mineral exploration results. Among them, the project "New Types of Tungsten-Tin Deposits Found in New Strata in Youjiang Area of Western Guangxi" was rated as one of the "Top Ten Advances in Geological Science and Technology in 2024" by the China Geological Survey; a thick tungsten ore body was discovered in the Yangtang Tungsten Mining Area of Cenxi. In the next step, the Regional Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources will further expand the base of Guangxi's advantageous strategic mineral resources such as tungsten, tin, antimony, manganese ore, and bauxite, and promote the exploration and reserve increase of scarce strategic minerals such as nickel and zirconium.
Guangxi has a long history of tungsten resource development. It was discovered and put into mining and export as early as the beginning of the 20th century, and formal mineral geological exploration work began in 1955. By the end of 2003, Guangxi had identified 2 large tungsten deposits, 4 medium-sized deposits, and 16 small deposits. Its cumulative proven tungsten trioxide resource reserves reached 398,000 tons, and the remaining proven tungsten trioxide resource reserves were 323,000 tons, ranking fourth nationwide, highlighting Guangxi's important position in the field of tungsten resources in the country.
From the perspective of spatial distribution, Guangxi's tungsten mines are widely distributed, mainly concentrated in southern Guangxi, northeastern Guangxi and northern Guangxi. Among them, Wuming and Bobai in southern Guangxi, Zhongshan and Ziyuan in northeastern Guangxi, and Luocheng and Nandan in northern Guangxi are all rich in tungsten resources.
In the national tungsten mining total control index for 2024, Guangxi was allocated a total tungsten mining control index of 3,800 tons (tungsten trioxide content 65%), but compared with the previous year, it was reduced by 1,320 tons, a decrease of 25.78%, which also reflects that the country is constantly adjusting the intensity of protective mining of tungsten resources to achieve sustainable utilization of resources.
