The domestic rare earth market is experiencing a situation where prices are rising but actual transactions remain limited. Several factors are influencing this trend, including the slow pace of production capacity release by rare earth manufacturers, low willingness of suppliers to sell, and an increase in downstream inquiries.
As a result, prices for various rare earth raw materials have risen significantly. For example:
Praseodymium oxide increased by approximately 6,000 RMB/ton
Praseodymium-neodymium oxide increased by approximately 4,000 RMB/ton
Holmium oxide increased by approximately 15,000 RMB/ton
Dysprosium oxide increased by approximately 20,000 RMB/ton
Driven by the rise in raw material prices, the prices of rare earth permanent magnet scrap have also increased, with neodymium-iron-boron scrap (praseodymium-neodymium) rising by about 11 RMB/kg.
It is worth noting that the recent price surge does not necessarily indicate a continuous upward trend in the coming days, as actual transaction volumes remain relatively low. However, in the long term, rare earth prices are expected to fluctuate upward.
Industry News
According to financial reports, China Northern Rare Earth Group High-Tech Co., Ltd. (中科三环) expects its 2024 net profit attributable to shareholders to be 10–15 million RMB, reflecting a year-on-year decline of 94.55%–96.37%. Earnings per share are estimated at 0.0082–0.0124 RMB.
Several factors contributed to this decline, including:
Falling rare earth raw material prices
Weak demand in some downstream application sectors
Intensified market competition, leading to lower product prices and narrower profit margins
Increased asset impairment losses due to declining raw material prices
Despite the current challenges, long-term market trends and potential policy adjustments could shape future price movements.
