The domestic rare earth market continues to show a "price but no market" pattern.
Although multiple favorable news factors still influence the market, suppliers are generally holding strong on their reluctance to sell and their commitment to supporting prices. However, due to weak downstream demand over an extended period and limited liquidity, some suppliers are beginning to lower prices in an effort to secure more orders.
Today, prices for terbium oxide, dysprosium oxide, and dysprosium ferroalloy decreased by approximately 20 yuan per kilogram, 5,000 yuan per ton, and 10,000 yuan per ton, respectively. As raw material prices decline, prices for corresponding rare earth magnet scrap materials have also seen a slight drop. For example, prices for neodymium-iron-boron dysprosium scrap and neodymium-iron-boron dysprosium-terbium scrap have decreased by about 6 yuan per kilogram and 8 yuan per kilogram, respectively.
Market Drivers: Favorable factors influencing the rare earth market include:
The escalation of the situation in Myanmar has led to a halt in local rare earth mining activities, and the border has been sealed, which in turn has obstructed the import of medium and heavy rare earth products into China.
A slight increase in the northern rare earth auction prices month-on-month this month.
Strong development in downstream industries such as new energy vehicles, wind power generation, and robotics, which has boosted confidence in the future outlook of the market.
Market News:
According to the Baotou Municipal Industry and Information Bureau, among the 8 rare earth products monitored in October 2024, prices for 4 products increased month-on-month, while 4 remained stable. The largest increase was seen in neodymium oxide, which rose by 5,000 yuan per ton, bringing the average price to 432,000 yuan per ton, a 1.3% increase from the previous month. However, the price has decreased by 98,000 yuan per ton year-on-year, reflecting an 18.5% decline. In total, 6 products saw price decreases year-on-year, with the highest drop again seen in neodymium oxide.
