Chinese Rare Earth Prices - September 27, 2024

Chinese rare earth prices have slightly increased overall in the week ended on Friday September 27, 2024. However, due to various uncertainties, the price trends for light and heavy rare earths have shown some divergence, and the momentum for order growth appears to be somewhat weak.

In the light rare earth market, the prices initially rose but later retracted. Early in the week, an uptick in bidding activities from magnet material companies boosted supplier quotes. Nevertheless, as actual demand lagged, prices rationally declined as the weekend approached.

In the heavy rare earth market, prices remained stable. With downstream users largely maintaining their just-in-time procurement, suppliers generally adopted a rational pricing strategy.

According to statistics from China Tungsten Online, the current price of praseodymium and neodymium oxide has increased by approximately 1,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 0.24% compared to last week. The price of praseodymium-neodymium metal has risen by about 2,000 yuan per ton, a 0.38% increase. The price of terbium oxide has increased by around 10 yuan per kilogram, up 0.17%. Dysprosium oxide prices have gone up by approximately 5,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 0.28%. Additionally, the price of 55N neodymium-iron-boron raw blocks has increased by about 3 yuan per kilogram, a rise of 1.44%. The price of praseodymium-neodymium in neodymium-iron-boron scrap has risen by around 13 yuan per kilogram, an increase of 2.33%.

These trends indicate that this week, the price increases for mainstream light and heavy rare earth raw materials were smaller compared to the price increases of rare earth permanent magnet materials.
