Molybdenum Oxide Prices - September 25, 2024

The overall molybdenum market in China is stable, with a relatively balanced supply and demand relationship leading to intensified price negotiations among traders. Prices for molybdenum concentrate and molybdenum oxide have slightly declined, while the prices for ferromolybdenum and molybdate remain steady.

In the molybdenum concentrate market, the atmosphere of caution has increased compared to earlier periods, mainly due to reduced inquiry activities from ferromolybdenum merchants, a downward adjustment in international molybdenum prices, and the weakening effect of production costs on price support. As a result, suppliers' confidence in maintaining prices has been slightly shaken. The ferromolybdenum market remains stable overall; although steel companies continue to apply downward pressure on ferromolybdenum prices, the demand from steel procurement remains acceptable. To avoid the risk of cost inversion, intermediate smelting enterprises generally maintain firm pricing. So far this month, the total amount of ferromolybdenum procured by steel companies is approximately 12,000 tons. In the molybdenum chemical and product market, overall activity is low, with product prices mainly influenced by supply and demand, and traders primarily engaging in essential transactions.

According to customs data, from January to August 2024, China’s cumulative imports of molybdenum products reached 43,983.17 tons, a year-on-year increase of 29.20%. The cumulative import value was 6.089 billion yuan, up 11.37% year-on-year. During the same period, China's cumulative exports of molybdenum products amounted to 27,490.41 tons, a year-on-year increase of 6.77%, with a cumulative export value of 6.178 billion yuan, down 7.29% year-on-year.
