Chinese Rare Earth Prices – June 7, 2024

Chinese rare earth prices showed a trend of fluctuating decline in the week ended on Friday June 7, 2024, among which the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide dropped from about 377,000 yuan/ton to about 364,000 yuan/ton; the price of terbium oxide dropped from about 6,060 yuan/kg to about 5,790 yuan/kg. 

This is mainly due to the gradual increase in spot supply in the market, the significant recovery of downstream demand, and the high panic of suppliers. However, supported by production costs, some suppliers still have a strong awareness of price increases, which is mainly reflected in the tentative rebound in the prices of praseodymium-neodymium-terbium series products this week.

According to statistics from Chinatungsten Online, the current price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide has dropped by about RMB 13,000/ton compared with last week, a decrease of 3.45%; the price of praseodymium-neodymium metal has dropped by about RMB 15,000/ton compared with last week, a decrease of 3.23%; the price of terbium oxide has dropped by about RMB 270/kg compared with last week, a decrease of 4.46%; the price of dysprosium oxide has dropped by about RMB 50,000/ton compared with last week, a decrease of 2.56%; the price of 55N NdFeB blank has dropped by about RMB 3/kg compared with last week, a decrease of 1.52%; the price of NdFeB scrap (praseodymium-neodymium) has dropped by about RMB 16/kg compared with last week, a decrease of 3.87%. It can be seen that the price decline of mainstream light and heavy rare earth products this week is still large.

News: Science and Technology Daily reported that a breakthrough research result titled "Constructing a two-dimensional heterogeneous structure channel: Using engineered biofilm and graphene for accurate scandium screening" by the Lanzhou University rare earth research team was published in the international journal Advanced Materials. The researchers used the secondary structure between the engineered biofilm and graphene oxide nanosheets to construct a two-dimensional heterogeneous channel with efficient separation performance. It is reported that this new membrane technology not only realizes the selective identification and screening separation of scandium ions, but also has important significance for the separation and purification of other rare earth elements.
