Molybdenum Powder Prices - April 29, 2024

Chinese molybdenum market is showing a pattern of stability with a slight weakness. With the supply-demand relationship relatively balanced, discussions between buyers and sellers are somewhat deadlocked, leading to a noticeable decrease in product prices compared to the previous days, as well as a slow increase in orders.

In the molybdenum concentrate market, the overall situation is average, with traders mainly maintaining just-in-time transactions. The mainstream transaction price for products is around 3,550 yuan/ton. Currently, industry players are closely watching the performance of the molybdenum market after the May Day holiday. In the molybdenum iron market, the overall situation remains under pressure. Facing the contradiction between the difficulty in purchasing low-priced goods and the strong price pressure from steel mills, intermediate smelting enterprises are facing significant risks of cost-benefit inversion. In the molybdenum chemical and its products market, with terminal customers generally maintaining on-demand purchases and strong upward price pressure in the upstream market, supplier prices remain basically unchanged. Today, the prices of sodium molybdate, ammonium heptamolybdate, and molybdenum powder are approximately 173,000 yuan/ton, 233,000 yuan/ton, and 452 yuan/kg, respectively.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that in mid-April 2024, the daily crude steel production nationwide was 2.5332 million tons, an increase of 0.26% compared to the previous period. Daily pig iron production was 2.1868 million tons, a decrease of 0.44% compared to the previous period. Daily steel production was 3.4336 million tons, an increase of 1.90% compared to the previous period. By the end of mid-April 2024, key statistics showed that steel inventory of key steel enterprises was approximately 18.1161 million tons, a decrease of 137,700 tons from the previous decade, a decrease of 0.75%; a decrease of 1.4176 million tons from the same period last month, a decrease of 7.26%; a decrease of 425,000 tons from the same period last year, a decrease of 2.29%; and a decrease of 1.5512 million tons from the same period two years ago, a decrease of 7.89%.
