Chinese Rare Earth Prices - April 19, 2024

This week, Chinese rare earth prices showed a pattern of fluctuations, with prices rising and falling.

Influenced by strong support from production and generation, the willingness of many downstream users to continue consuming, and relatively optimistic expectations for the future, rare earth suppliers generally raised their prices. However, due to the significant increase in rare earth product prices compared to the previous period and the completion of replenishment plans by some downstream users, market demand weakened compared to last week. This led to significant resistance to further price increases for rare earth products, and even rational corrections occurred.

According to data from Chinatungsten Online, as of the current week, the price of praseodymium and neodymium oxide has increased by approximately 6,000 yuan per ton, with a rise of 1.57% compared to last week; the price of praseodymium and neodymium metal has increased by approximately 5,000 yuan per ton, with a rise of 1.04% compared to last week; the price of terbium oxide has increased by approximately 350 yuan per kilogram, with a rise of 5.79% compared to last week; the price of dysprosium oxide has increased by approximately 60,000 yuan per ton, with a rise of 3.03% compared to last week; the price of 55N neodymium iron boron ingot has increased by approximately 5 yuan per kilogram, with a rise of 2.56% compared to last week; and the price of neodymium iron boron waste (praseodymium and neodymium) has increased by approximately 15 yuan per kilogram, with a rise of 3.66% compared to last week. It can be seen that the increase in rare earth raw material prices this week has narrowed compared to last week; the increase in prices of dysprosium and terbium oxides is slightly higher than the increase in prices of praseodymium and neodymium; under the recent continuous rise in rare earth raw material prices, the prices of rare earth permanent magnet materials and their waste have also risen.

In terms of news, recent interactions on an investor platform show:

Investor: Will the international situation and the internal conflict in Myanmar affect the supply and demand relationship of rare earths?

Shenghe Resources Secretary: Customs data shows that in 2023, China imported rare earth raw materials from Myanmar, including unnamed rare earth oxides, unnamed rare earth metals and their compound mixtures. Among them, about 41,678 tons of unnamed rare earth oxides accounted for approximately 95% of the same type of goods imported during the same period, and about 30,395 tons of unnamed rare earth metals and their compound mixtures accounted for approximately 69% of the same type of goods imported during the same period. If there are significant changes in the quantity of rare earth raw materials imported from Myanmar, it will have a significant impact on the supply of rare earth raw materials.
