The overall focus of Chinese rare earth price has once again significantly shifted downward.
Prices for praseodymium and neodymium series products have generally decreased by more than 10,000 yuan per ton. Terbium oxide has seen a decrease of around 155 yuan per kilogram, dysprosium iron alloy around 50,000 yuan per ton, and neodymium iron boron waste (terbium) around 250 yuan per kilogram. However, despite this situation, market demand has not significantly increased, leading to heightened concerns among some industry players.
Cost determines the lower limit of a product's price. In the recent period, the significant decline in rare earth raw material prices has approached the cost line. This, in turn, suggests that rare earth prices may rebound at any time. Additionally, with the year-on-year increase in rare earth concentrate transaction prices for the first quarter of 2024 at Northern Rare Earth, the rare earth market is more likely to experience a recovery.
In terms of news, the Jiangxi Development and Reform Commission stated that in 2023, the average sales prices per ton of Ganzhou high-yttrium oxide (rare earth) and medium-yttrium europium compound (rare earth) were 291,700 yuan and 238,300 yuan, respectively, representing year-on-year declines of 29.22% and 32.78%. In December, the average sales prices per ton of Ganzhou high-yttrium oxide (rare earth) and medium-yttrium europium compound (rare earth) were 270,000 yuan and 210,000 yuan, respectively, with month-on-month decreases of 6.90% and 8.70% and year-on-year decreases of 30.77% and 34.38%, respectively.
